Black King was how I received these seeds, but I did not think BK had a picotee edge. Nonetheless, I think it is grand.Thumb of 2013-07-19/poisondartfrog/78a92a

I think it is mahvelous, simply mahvelous, however, Black King doesn't have the white margin. You have a keeper there, Alana.

Alana, yours looks very similar to a vine from seeds that came to me labeled Velvet Plum that I grew in 2007. Have never grown any other nil that grew so vigorously (up to 20' in different directions), nor so prolifically. The flowers were very large and the leaves were splashed with 'white'. When defoliated by rust, the vine quickly renewed itself with new healthy growth in the leaf axils - may have been at least 3 cycles of rust and new leaves.

Joseph, do you know if I am mistaken to continue labeling this one as Velvet Plum?

Bluespiral, it could be Velvet Plum, I've not ever grown Velvet Plum. Seeing your photo and Alana's photo make me wanna grow it, however!

Emma liked to use the word plum in her varietal names, is it one of hers?

Yes, Joseph, the seeds came from Emma - would you like some seeds? I can send seeds for sasbe to anyone who asks - tree-mail me for my address if you're interested.

Editted to change horrible blooper. If the reader didn't notice it, never mind. tree-mail would be fine, if any one wants seeds.

It would not be outside the realm of possibility that I mixed up the labels. Whistling I do have Velvet Plum from you growing Karen; I may have switched them when I planted them out.
They certainly look it.

Oops - I had forgotten I sent those to you Alana. Sometimes, with Emma's seeds, I had more fun with the mislabeled (OP?) ones than the ones true to the label - especially with the smokey lavender ones Lovey dubby I have noticed that seeds labeled Black King from various folks have surprising, fascinating variations - love them all. I'm growing a Black King from Patootie and one from Emma - maybe one way or 'nother one of us will have some BK seeds to share for next summer Smiling

Is Emma Grace on this site? I grew some of her seeds this summer and would love for her to see her result of Emma Grace#10. That's what her label said. They are so pretty but up high, so I could not get a photo of the front. I'm going to try to take it from upstairs tomorrow to see if that is possible. I picked one off this evening but it's quite wilted, so I can not tell their proper markings.

I don't see her listed here, Nicole, more's the pity. She does have her own website now, as well as selling on ebay. She may still be on DG or GW.
I posted the information I have on her here:

Thanks for the info. It's raining today so I'm going to send her a message when I can get a "top" view of the JMG.

Woofie & Joseph - don't you two want seeds of this one, too? I got a tree-mail request from one person and would be happy to send you two some seeds, as well.

Hi Bluespiral! I've been exiled from the internet for the past few days (grrrrr!) so I didn't get to respond to your kind offer. And I am a sucker for morning glory seeds! I'd LOVE to have some!

Woof - they're yours. I'll be happy to send you these seeds SASBE, if you will t-mail me for my address. These will be gifts, not trades.

ps - if you don't do bubble envelopes, then whatever alternative would suit you would be fine.

Ronnie - you're welcome Big Grin
