Does the trunk bark on certain crepe myrtles peel or could it be from all of the rain we have had?

Yes, some Crape Myrtle trees' bark naturally peel or exfoliate.

Ours are peeling right now. It makes a mess each time but the result is the beautiful mottled bark beneath it.
