I took a photo of this plant which I will post soon. It has been in my garden for a long time and I always thought it was American Indian. A couple years ago it got divided and moved and it seems to have really taken off! I never realized it had so many branches and buds and was so tall. It is also very tall, about 48". Anyways, it doesn't look like any of the official pictures for American Indian. At first I thought it was one of the newer tall spiders that I have been collecting, but I have too many large clumps of it for it to be anything but one of my oldest cultivars. (I always thought of it as the green center not Autumn Red.) Anyone else grow this?

I am pretty sure I have a pic of it somewhere. I will hunt for it and post it if I find it.

The dark spider behind it is Brown Witch.

That doesn't look like my American Indian. Mine is a dark bright orange.

Check the plant database. There is a pic of it there and it is indeed orange.

Well that's the mystery! Actually I bought another American Indian so I could check and see if it was like the first one, and it was the same. Different soil maybe???

I really think that is way too much of a color difference to be soil related. They evidently sold you the wrong plant.

But two different sources? Unless the second source got it from the same first source I did! Which was Wild's. Definately some room for mis-identification there...I really like whatever it is that I have, just that curiosity thing, ya' know?

Yes, I would be curious too. I believe I ordered mine from Wild's also but many, many years ago.

I am going to try to find someone who sells it now.

The only place I could find on google that sells it is Wright's Daylilies, and they have your orange one. Guess mine is just misidentified, but I like mine better what ever it is!

I think it is "Purple Waters" a historic by Russell.
