Your almost same zone as me and I plant mine outside this time of year. I do keep them in the shade though.

I plant mine here in central Ohio in early November, so they have a cold period over winter. I think many people refrigerate them for 2-3 weeks before planting if planting at other times of the year.

Hazel Eyes, do you refrigerate your seeds first? Do you water and see them growing and then overwinter in the ground as small seedlings?

The seeds I bought last year where refrigerated when I bought them.
The ones I grew last summer grew and over wintered. The mulched ones did better then the ones sitting on the table out back.
