Will all of the seeds from a pod be the same or will they flower differently?

Irises do not come true from seed. Every one is different, although some colors can be similar.

I knew it didn't come true from seed, I just didn't know if each seed in a pod would be alike or if each one would be different. Thanks Lucy.

If they were not different, hybridizers would go crazy.

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Oh, I kinda thought maybe hybridizers were a bit crazy. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
With all the dabbing of the pollen, marking and tracking the crosses, watching the seed pods (I won't even go into the things I have heard about injecting them). Then the freeze thaw cycles, keeping watch over the seedlings and waiting sometimes years for blooms...yep, maybe a bit crazed.
Now I want to try it!

I winter sowed some iris seeds I got in a seed swap ,I have 4 different seedlings growing now. I am looking forward to see what kochii X florentine silk will look like. Can't think of what the other three crosses are right now.
I am hoping to cross some next year myself.

Is it a hobby or a job or both Lucy? I think it would be great to have a commercial iris garden but I am afraid I would never make any money because I would be giving everything away.

My best friend's husband turned 70 today and he hates saying it too. My mother is 72 but it doesn't seem to bother her much except the legs, she needs new legs! She has new knees and that has helped some.

I am glad you got it right the first time Arlyn! I wasted a lot of time, like a little over 20 years. I am 47 and have a lot of catching up to do because I had way too much fun up until the last 5 years or so.

Here I go off topic. Lucy brought up chickens so how about a story. A man called a Psychiatrist for an appointment for his wife. The nurse asked what the problem was and the man replied that his wife thought she was a chicken. The nurse inquired as to how long she had the problem. Several years the man replied. Why haven't you gotten her in sooner the nurse.asked? We've needed the eggs was the mans response. Whistling

Here's something interesting, There was a discussion on public radio that we are nearing the time when there will be head transplants! Oh boy, I want the body of an 18 year old. I can always get a face lift later.
