Anyone know what species these are. They all seem to have the same basic pattern but are different shades, from white, to tan and gray. There were literally thousands on the island that I went to today.
Well, some of them are Great Southern Whites. Some look different, not sure right now if they're a different species.

Thanks Linda! I looked them up and the colors and patterns are variable, so I'm fairly sure they all are. Not that many showed up in the pictures, but it was pretty amazing seeing so many in one place.

Those are beautiful butterflies. I don't know that I've ever seen one in person. I bet it was quite a nice sight to see so many. they are kind of angelic looking to me.

One way to ID a Great Southern White from other white butterflies is that GSW have turquoise-colored antenna clubs. It's kind of cool; I'm not sure what the advantage is to having turquoise clubs but I always thought it looked neat.

Thanks! I borrowed my Mom's super expensive camera to take that shot. My camera was kind of crappy back then but I have a newer one now that does pretty well.
