How cool is that! Now I know what I'm going to do with my wooden wine box I scored at the thrift shop!

That's gorgeous! .. is the chicken wire the only thing holding the plants in the soil?

i use staples then nail the lath over it for looks and it keeps the wire from flexing
the wire is galvanized and strong but it will rust out over time, by then your plants will be so thick they may very well just stay put

Yes, yes, yes! I went all 'Meg Ryan' when I saw that. Are you trying to save space or just appreciate the unusual? Hope you don't mind emulation, I'd like to make/have some of these.

Does this give you ideas? Just put together a couple weeks ago. The sides of hanging baskets are boring, fugly, and wasted space.

Thanks, Bev
Tiffany i am thinking about selling some of these and i am just fooling around with some ideas. And i had 30 feet of 1 x 4 that came with the sheet metal i thought that would work good for this. And it increases the size of my plant stock for future boxes. If you have the tools these are easy to build but make sure to pre drill the holes before you nail.

Tiffany, did you drill those holes on side of hanging pot? I was trying to imagine growth of those plants hanging out of the holes and ...I think it may work!! Neat idea.

Bev, thanks! I used an awl to poke holes, then a screwdriver to make most of them bigger, and scissors to make a few a lot bigger. I'm doing almost all of my hanging baskets that way, about a half dozen left to do. All plants with small stems, should be really cool when they fill in some.

Also have a rectangle purple wire mesh basket I think would look cool with tiny, creeping Sedums taking over it. This discussion gives me ideas to use it vertically so it takes up 1/3 the space. Sweet.

Mark, I'm sure that would go well, and thanks for that tip! DH does most of the tool'ing, he's got an eye out for the right pieces of 'scrap wood' to bring home from work. 'They' sell rolls of that wire stuff, if you need more, different size holes and strengths of wire, you probably know that.

i am still fooling with this but with a 1 inch hole you can screw in the top of a 2 liter for easy watering. the trick is to fill it with gravel so it doesn't drain super fast

I'm hoping it does the job for you. Your frame looks awfully big to have to take down and put up. Can I ask, Mark, what are the dimensions of your frame?
