I'm growing the Sunshine Mix Gazanias for the first time .. they are suppose to be perennial in my zone 8. Since the squirrels dug up a few, I'd like to move some around to fill in the gaps .. when is the best time to move them and do they take kindly to being moved?

In zone 8, I am not planting anything out because it is way too hot, I would have to water it everyday and even then they could still wilt and die. If you want to preserve a few, put them into large enough pots to keep them comfortable till fall, place them in part shade and plant them when it is cooler.

Mine are doing great in the ground getting full sun .. I've never grown them before (started these from seed) so I don't know what they do in Winter as to whether or not they go dormant.

From what I read they are perennial zone 9-11 , and used as annuals elsewhere. Hope yours survive the winter.

Lol .. I've read that some are a solid zone 8! That's the problem with plant zone information .. no one can come to an agreement.

Our last two winters have been more like zone 9 winters than zone 8 and I'm noticing solid zone 9 and even a few zone 10 plants surviving the winter.

I grow Gazania's almost every year. I'm in zone 8 and have only had them survive the winter one time. That particular year they were planted in a protected spot near our hot tub. The hot tub is no longer there and I've not had Gazania's survive sense. Sad

That's true! You just may find that perfect protected spot. Good luck and let us know how they did.

I'm surprised by how frost tolerant they are. Mine have already withstood a few nights of freezing temps and several cold days, and still look as good as they did before. I'd always before thought these were very delicate and touchy plants, but I'm glad to note that even though they're not perennially hardy here they're still very useful garden plants. Thumbs up
