I took a good look at my spider plant borders, not knowing if they were bordered in green or bordered in yellow/white. They are bordered in yellow/white. I have some plain green dispersed amongst them, but I wonder if the revrse, bordered in green will ever happen? I tell you one thing, in my mottle sun-only, shady garden, they are not curly.

Reverse Variegated

Well let me explain, the four we have are Bonnie(curly), Vittatum(green border), Variegatum(white/yellow border) and the wild green variety. Im not aware of other varieties but there are other species such as C.(FireFlash)

There is one I came upon called Chlorophytum laxum "Zebra" that is said to look like rhe reverse but has a yellower edge that eventually turns white. Then of course the Plain Green which I do not know the name used for it. Have you seen he Hawaiian spider plant? I am told it starts out variegated and then as it grows it turns all green again.

Also there is a one called Chlorophytum comosum'Picuratum' and the center stripes are yellow. i think I have some of that...I need to check. Someone sent me quite a few babies and one I thought was sick, that was yellow. Maybe I have a plant and do not know it. Rolling on the floor laughing

I have way too many plants and when my spider plant died with out me knowing why and after having it for over 6 years, I just gave up on them. It was the last plant that I had to bring in. They could take a freeze and still look good.
I think I overwatered it during the winter.

This is why I steer clear of GW too - too many miserable people, although I have looked up information on google and had GW come up in my search.

I have what is called a 'Hawaiian Spider' that I received in a trade. I would take a picture, however, I think (hope) the lighting is changing the color. I know there were 2 in the trade at the time that I received and I lost one. The other I have babied. I am hoping it takes on the shades of green that I have seen in the Hawaiian Spider plants Sticking tongue out

ShadyGreenThumb ~ the only spider that gets curly in sunshine is the one called Bonnie. The more sun it gets, the curlier the leaves become. This is a link to a photo of the one I loved and lost...
I also have one of the Hawaiian spiders. It sat on the front porch in bright shade and I noticed the color became drab. I have moved it out under shade cloth and am hoping the unusual variegation returns. The new baby spiders on it show more of the color than the older plant.

Isn't that a beauty. Wouldn't that be pretty in a planter with some curly? In fact, it looks a bit curly or is that my bad eye?
That is a great link also. How could we keep that so others may see it? I am not good at getting around that sort of thing here on ATP yet.

Many of these species are also good houseplants but they are hard to find. There are many other species outthere than even these

I could sit here all day and look at these. Do you have them on the ATP database? You should put them up. They are great pictures and would be a great addition if they are not already there. I know I would appreciate having them here at our fingertips. If you do not want to put them up I will.

I had absolutely no idea that there were that many Spider Plants. Very pretty! Please don't get me hooked!!'
I saw a curly one at Lowe's yesterday on the sale rack. But i didn't have a tag. I didn't want to buy another of what I had and wanted to be sure it was a Bonnie. So I left it. Is there something else about Bonnie that is a tell tale sign just by looking at it besides curl?

JB will you please do that for me,
Shady, im shure that was a bonnie, hopefully it is still there and you can grab it.

*There are still mmany more species out there, said to be maybe 250 species, but not all were meant to be houseplant grown. Enjoythe hunt! I want the bonnie and hawaiian varietieas, there both gorgeous. i also only have baby white middle stripe, and tons of the reverse, which tends to be less vigourous
