He's a beauty, Margaret! I hope he left some crab apples on the tree for you to look at. I have an ornamental crab absolutely laden with fruits at the front of my house, and so far nothing has eaten any of them. I think the wildlife is sick of apples this year, there are so many fruits on the wild trees.

Here's a treat for the wild turkeys! It's Jack-in-the-pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum).

I love Jack-in-the-pulpits. Unfortunately no Jack-in-the-pulpits in my garden and no turkeys either, wild or otherwise. Not unless you count the cooked one at Thanksgiving. Hilarious!

While I was out walking today I noticed this wild rose with lots of small, round hips just turning red. The rose has clambered about 15ft up into a dead elm. I need to write myself a reminder to take some pics next year when it's flowering!

Eeek, not another invasive species, please! I'll look for pics of the leaves and thorns of Rosa multiflora, in case I can ID my bush without waiting for it to flower.

Yes, Rita, your suspicion was correct. The rose's leaves have the multiflora's distinctive little fringe where the stalk meets the stem, and the thorns have the multiflora's curve. Oh, cr@p! Grumbling

Honestly, birds love to nest in multiflora. It is not such a bad thing. The flowers are so sweet smelling in bloom.

This plant I know for sure is native! Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) grows everywhere on my property. It's a constant battle to stop it from enveloping trees and bushes, but I'm just glad it's not Poison Ivy.

Ha, much better have Virginia creeper than poison ivy! I get both show up and pull them both up. I also get Porcelain Berry vines. Lovely blue berries but those things pop up everywhere. And a nightshade vine that I can't think of the name of.

This is a "wild" beautyberry that grew itself in my yard. Looks just like the ones I bought at the nursery.

And here is my red Aronia that was bought as a wildlife shrub but nothing ever eats those berries.
