Happy August Everyone! I can't believe it's actually August already, this year is flying by. To start out the month, here's a Gulf Fritillary at the Lantana flowers:

Oh Janice, great pic! That's a Grass Skipper of some type but I don't know which one. Scroll down this page to a lot of pretty Orange Skippers:

Thanks so much, Lin!!! I tip my hat to you.

Saw this White Peacock flying around my bromeliad garden. It managed to find the Spanish Needles I haven't weeded out yet.

Thumb of 2013-08-01/mellielong/9f4e0c

This Zebra Longwing was also on Spanish Needles in a different part of the yard.

Thumb of 2013-08-01/mellielong/9b8436

And this Gulf Fritillary was on the porterweed. I think it hit every bloom on the plant!

It's so seldom that insects stay still long enough for me to photograph them, I only have one pic. Is this a Viceroy butterfly?

June, that is a Viceroy! I seldom see them except sometimes when I go hiking through the swamps where the willows (their host plant) grows. I've only ever seen one in my garden in the last five years or so.

Jay, you've got a Checkered Skipper there. Possibly a Tropical Checkered Skipper. They're really hard to tell apart. I see them every now and then in my garden.

Jay: That Skipper is a beauty! I'm not real good at comparing photo's but it may be the Desert Checkered Skipper: http://www.butterfliesandmoths...

All of the photos are awesome, I know how difficult it is to get those shots. I spend a lot of time running around the garden chasing them!! Rolling on the floor laughing I have a few decent shots I will post when I find a little more time. Green Grin!

I agree
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
