It has another very small bud on it so we shall see what it looks like when it blooms.

Betty, your Rollercoaster Rush looks a lot better than mine. I think there was only two flowers on this new plant and I don't think they fully opened. I hope mine looks like yours next year!

Fall has arrived in Vermont. We had rain on Saturday and Sunday. It just poured. And cold nights down in the 40's. Burr. Not ready for this. Today and yesterday were sunny but cooler. I still have a few plants that haven't bloomed yet (they better hurry up), and many are either finishing there bloom cycle or starting a rebloom. Here's what 'cold nights' do to the color and size of some of my daylilies.

MERCURY RISING (Still blooming - was double, now only single blooms)

RED HOT AND BOOM (This plant has bloomed since the end of June. The August pix is the last bloom)

And finally, I won 'Tides Roll In' (Petit- 2012) from James Hall on the LA back in late June. Yesterday, the plant arrived. Beautiful clump. As a bonus gift plant, James sent me a spider plant by the name of 'Buddy's Booger' (unusual name) a 2014 daylily, being processed for registration now. He sent me this picture of the bloom from his garden.

Wow Alex! What a difference in the blooms from July to August. Thanks so much for posting them like that. A real eye opener! However, I must say I'm a bit envious of your cooler weather as it was 94 here today & hit 96 yesterday. Wanna trade houses for a month? Geez, Ann, that's bloody warm! You know what they say about Vermonter's. Anything over 75 degrees, and Vermonter's wilt and die. However, I was not born or raised here. I adopted VT. when I was in my 20's. I came to ski, when this area was just developing, and ignored the summer's going home to DC. Now I abhor the long frigid Winter's, don't ski anymore (my knees are thankful for that) and adore the Spring, Summers, and Fall seasons. All are so radically different seasons. By the way, Ann, do you have a swimming pool, or is it the Gulf of Mexico?

PS: Loved your pecan story. Go for it!

No swimming pool here. You'll laugh at this one. I grew up in Jupiter, Fl. & lived on the river & played on the river & later lived on boats; have been boating all my life. And I can't swim! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Sink like a stone I do. Hilarious! But that never stopped me from going in the ocean, or the Intracoastal or in the Loxahatchee river or on boats. But you better believe I always know the depth of the water wherever I am & if on a boat I am well aware of the slippery places & available "hand holds". I grew up in paradise when no one wanted to live there & used to laugh at where we were from. Right smack on the waters & ocean. So I'm spoiled. Do I want to drive 70 miles to either the Gulf or the Atlantic? Nah. That's too much of a trip to go to the beach! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!
In truth, I had the very best of it & "it" doesn't exist anymore. The coast of Fl. is no longer anything like it used to be & I am content to bury myself inland in the ancient Live Oaks with their Spanish moss dripping from their monstrous arms.

And about 7 years ago I found out exactly why I can't swim despite my most fervent efforts & that of loved ones to teach me. It's a scientific fact that there are people who have negative buoyancy. I am one. I learned that from a wise old Navy Seal who later taught newbie Seals.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Alex, I've added Mercury Rising, Red Hot and Boom, and From the Sea as EMO's (Early Morning Openers) in ATP's database, and you now have 3 acorns from me. Were Elvis and/or Ann Hathaway's Garden in your post also EMO's? Let me know and I'll add them and give you additional acorns, too. : ) (Glamoureyez is already in the database as an EMO.)

Ok Ann - Fat floats, muscle doesn't, and for that reason people with very low percentages of body fat are negatively buoyant, and yes, they can still learn to swim. Professional swimmers have very little % of body fat, hence are negatively buoyant, yet they compete in the Olympics, triathlon's etc.

<The coast of Fl. is no longer anything like it used to be & I am content to bury myself inland in the ancient Live Oaks with their Spanish moss dripping from their monstrous arms.>

Where you are living now, Ann, sounds idyllic. Something right out of Margaret Mitchell's, "Gone With the Wind". I can visualize this picture with a warm smile. And I am convinced that you have found the only hill in Florida to plant that lovely new daylily garden. The past holds endearing memories, but you have a new home where you will create beautiful new and cherished memories, one step at a time Life is an adventure. Hurray! Hurray!

Great blooms! Rich in Mercy, Alex's pink Elivs seedling....seed pods and some really nice edged seedlings a feast for the eyes. Season is winding down, many of the mid and some mid - late season bloomers are done or on their last buds. Rebloom scapes are popping up, not sure if they will get to open much before the cold gets them, but it sure is nice to have hope. Still working from images downloaded from the past few weeks.

Notify Ground Crew - this one is really tall, some scapes are easily 6 foot. Has a wide trumpet form bloom

I've always seen the cute images of tiny frogs in folks blooms, but never seen these little frogs in the garden before..and I'm a pretty observant person. Really fun checking to see where they show up each day...here's "Fred" sitting on a seed pod soaking up the warm sun after a 45 degree night yesterday.

Char:

That is the cutest picture of Fred the Frog I have ever seen. Just precious. Love it. A teeny, tiny frog taking in the sunshine on a seed pod.

This was a gorgeous day in Vermont today, and I got a lot of outside chores done---including weed-whacking parts of my property, and planting 4 more seedlings in the seedling bed where I am getting very short of space. 3 entire days without rain and delightfully warm around 78 degrees at my mountain home. But this afternoon when I walked out on my back deck, this is what awaited me.

Thumb of 2013-08-08/ARoseblush/5bedba

The reality hit me smack in the face. One of our native Sugarbush's (Maple trees) announcing that Fall was fast approaching. It must have been those several 40 degree nights we had a few days ago that turned these trees from green to orange. I am never ready to see Summer depart.

I do have some new blooms that opened this morning.and of course some reblooms.
