I finially did look on the OTHER side of my okra plants and found pods. Hilarious! Oh brother. Never saw them. I tried cutting into the two bigger ones but it was like trying to cut into wood! Had to toss them in the compost pile. The little pod was good though.

I am now in NY for the milking job, which will start tomorrow. This morning I made them a streusel coffee cake for breakfast and in a couple of minutes I am going to form up 3 loaves of bread to rise in the pans.

NY from Wisconsin? I hope you flew! That would be a long drive! Streusel coffee cake. Oh, drool. I love breakfast sweets. Such a deal for them, a milker and a baker. Do they know ahead of time how much baking you do too? I cannot make bread to save my soul. Well, I'll amend that. I can make an artisan cranberry pecan bread. But just regular old bread. Just can't and I'm a pretty good baker.

Wow, Anna! You are a bargain at any price.

Rita, that is what usually happens to my okra. Fortunately the pigs still like it, but even they have to chew a lot.

I never feel bad about wasting fresh produce (or not so fresh). Just compost it. Then it served a purpose. That's my new way of justifying not getting all those beans cooked and eaten. Hilarious!

I really don't like to waste food but in the case of my okra, just a mistake. My first year growing it anyway. And I have no animals that would eat it so in the compost pile it goes.

I don't like to waste food either but sometimes there's just more than you can eat and no one to give it to. Our chickens get lots of goodies. I forget to give to the goats because I think there are some things they can't have and I don't want to be responsible for making them sick. I just can't remember what things. Either it's age or I'm not listening when they tell me.

I am thinking goats have cast iron stomachs. I can't see how any veggie that us people eat could possibly be harmful to a goat.

Ya, it would seem so. I'll ask again and let you know. but I know chickens cannot have potatoes.

I didn't know that. Hopefully some goatkeepers will chime in.

I get my airline ticket, istay in the house and house-sit, plus bake for her. This time she is leaving me a whole empty shelf in the one upright freezer. And she pays me in lovely, un-reportable cash. lOL. Green Grin!

Why can't chickens have spuds? Mine eat them and I haven't noticed any particular problem. I put all scraps in a bucket for the chickens and just toss it over the fence. Some things they don't seem to like, and just scratch it into the ground. I think most animals are self-regulating, although that may just be wishful thinking on my part...
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

Deb, I was wondering that too. Chickens seem to eat all sorts of greens and grains. Find it odd that they shouldn't have potato.

Found a small okra pod pod today and picked and ate it. Didn't want to forget about it and end up with those woody things I picked a few days ago. Rolling on the floor laughing

You know before I started growing my own, I never realized zucchini came in any other color than the standard darker green that supermarket zucchini that I always have seen.

But there are so many much more visually appealing varieties available to the home gardener. I bet zucchini would sell better at the store if it looked a little more exciting. Hilarious! And for anyone doing farmers market or farm stands, I would think a nicer looking zucchini would be a must for sales.

I think this one is really pretty, Green Tiger. And this one too, Caserta.
