can i grow in a galvanized metal bucket? is it safe....I was thinking of growing my green onions

I don't know about the edible-safety of that, which is probably what you're asking. But for growing anything (assuming it will be ouside,) does it have a hole in it?

I grow in those metal tubs, but only in the shade. I've tried them in sunny spots with poor results. Since onions need a lot of sun a metal tub might not be the best container for them. I think the sun shining on metal just heats the soil too much and fries the roots of whatever it's holding. Those big plastic yard waste collection tubs with rope handles work well in a sunny spot. They're fairly inexpensive for their size and if treated gently will last several years.

Maybe you can show us a photo of where you were thinking of placing the tub?

You live not far from where I grew up.

I grew carrots in those big tubs because we have such red clay here.

Yes, from our garden. The ironic thing is, it's not enough to make going to market worthwhile so we had to find people to share with. That would seem easy but you'd be surprised how many people are not used to eating fresh vegetables. DH ended up chopping most of the peppers and freezing. The eggplant will probably end up in the compost pile. At least I can reconcile that it will be still doing some good.

Butternuts are pretty big vines, aren't they? I'd say cut off at the soil line (don't pull) the weakest-looking one now, and then in a week or so, choose another to cut away...leaving just the healthiest one to grow on to maturity.

Just so you don't disturb the roots of the other plant/plants. That could cause them some stress.
