I saw these at a nursery yesterday and I'm wondering if anyone can ID them? I have too many small agave but these are really tempting, love the pattern on the leaves. I was guessing they were agave but now I also wonder if perhaps they are bromeliads?

I think it is a variety of cryptanthus bromeliad.

Bingo!!! I think you hit it dead on Jay Hurray!

I'm kind of sorry it is a bromeliad as I am very good at killing those. Odd in that there are quite a few that are native to this area but apparently not to my backyard. I've tried mounting them on trees or sticks and putting them in the ground. The first way they shrivel up and die and the second way they rot. Shrug!
