Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I thought she was going to talk about hazards like foxes and cats going after your chickens. Instead it is all too funny!

How about this one? British Documentary about the life of chickens. It is very good. Quite long actually but I watched the entire thing and learned a lot I didn't know before.

This is a link to the curtest chicken coop that was posted on the daylily chat thread.

I just loved it and wish I could buy it and get chickens. Not gonna happen as they are not legal here in my town.

The one I like is that Dutch coop that looks like a mini barn on wheels.

Those are nice. We had a chicken tractor first then Ira built the coop. Then he fenced in a run, then split that in half so he could plant in half while they used the other half but too many birds so they have a fenced/roofed run and then fenced in a huge area to keep them out of my garden. The guineas only go in at night.

My dream property has a huge, huge like at at least an acre completely fenced in chicken yard. Like I said, it is a dream. I am never going to move from where I am now.

Your chicken yard sounds very good to me!

This is before they roofed the original run. You can see the poles on the left past the coop, that is all now enclosed. Actually, they extended it also to the left so it's twice as wide as the coop. I guess I need an updated picture!

That would be a nice setup. And with the top enclosed also, the chickens are safe from hawks and such. I like the coop. How big is it? About how many chickens do you keep and what kinds?

Questions I don't have the answers to. Sorry. I will have to ask. I just give them stuff I pull up from the garden and have fun watching them all come running. Sometimes they come running to me just walking by because they think I have something for them. The have especially been enjoying the melons that we were not able to salvage.

Oh I bet they just love any produce that you can't use. Tasty treats for feathered friends! Big Grin

I just love chickens so I am always interested, No proble though if you don't know. It is not like I am going to build a chicken coop even though I would like to have one.

Arlene, those look like luxury hen accommodations! - But where are you going to put the goats, sheep, and cow?

Yeah, not so funny. We've progressed to the goats. There were eight. We just lost one. And they got their own house, complete with milking area! Nubians.

Thankfully, neither do I. I do cut comfrey for them occasionally when my son is out of town. I used to help with milking when he was out of town but then they built the milking house so far from the house with no electric (just a generator) and no water. It's okay for them because they milk by hand but I can't. I had to use the milking machine and try lugging that back up to the house to clean! Right now there's no goats to milk.

No, we still have the goats. In fact, Matt just got a new buck for breeding last Sunday. All the females are in the far away paddocks(?) fields/goat house. The two bucks are in an area just past the chickens. If it ever stops raining I will try and get some pictures.

Here you can see in relation to my garden where the goat house is. Ypu can see one beehive to the right of the gaot house.

Far away seems to me to be the right location for the goat house.
