I just love playing around with micro-sprinklers, Evan. They're so easy, flexible and like playing with Legos and water at the same time.

By next spring when it starts warming up, I can just unscrew that misting head and put on a watering head to keep little Pasta happy. All are on timers, too. We do travel some, and I've yet to lose a plant from water issues while on a trip.

On a short visit to Selby Gardens today, I saw this gorgeous plant covering a 15ft. tree stump with enormous shiny beautiful leaves. Could this be Philo. Pastazanum?

Holy cow, Drew, I'm gonna need a bigger stump!

Yeah, went out and checked on my baby Pastazanum, (huddled under its blankie tonight) and it has no wavy leaf edges, right? More deeply quilted leaves too.

I hope you can get a lead on that big one at Selby, it's a real beauty and I was surprised they didn't have it labeled.

According to CATE P. pasta is a creeper not a climber.

I've been toying with putting some of my Philo's in the ground. But I have enough to cover in the winter, and what do you do when they get up in the tops of the trees?

Put creepers in the ground MJ… there are more than enough varieties to keep your eyes entertained.

Thanks for the ID, guys - you're so great!

Mj, the tree canopy does give quite a bit of protection. Remember the P. gloriosums I sent you? I have two of them in the ground under my biggest oak, and even after temps down into the 30's last week they're still holding up leaves. So is my little Polly which is really a wimp usually.

If they're lusty enough to climb to the tops of the trees then even if the tops get nipped by the frost they should survive. Mulched heavily with oak leaves, of course.

Elaine, Yup P.gloriosum has been doing great for me. It's one of my favorites. Maybe when it pups again I'll put the baby in the ground. I traded the pups last year.

Here's Painted Lady and I think P. domesticum or hastaum

I've got a few others too.

Another new leaf unfurling on my Pastazanum cutting. What do you think about fert in this coolish weather, Drew?

I was thinking maybe it would tolerate half strength MG with a dash of epsom salts?

This guy seems pretty happy, I'm getting a new big leaf about every 3 weeks. See the pale one in the middle? Just opened today. Green Grin!
He's crawled out nearly to the edge of the pot, though, can I guide him around so he circles the pot instead of going overboard, d'you think?

Thanks Evan, gonna have to find a better place for it next year, though. Don't know if I dare put it in the ground, with all the oak tree roots I have around here. We'll see how big and strong it grows. I planted my two little P. Gloriosums out into the shady border, one in the ground and one in a sunken pot in the ground. Neither is exactly thriving, but the one in the pot is much happier than the other. Rescue mission is planned for . . soon!

Mj, they are wire linking stakes that come apart. I just put them around the plant when I first got it to keep it from uprooting itself - leaves were heavier than the roots. I was just thinking today that I may as well take them off there.

Drew,
Do you sink your pots in the ground or plant and dig up ?
