I love the Frostweed in my garden. In the sun or shade it grows tall and straight very large leaves. It doesn't mind me chopping it back to make it bush. I love the ribbons along the mature stems. Then late in the summer when some things are nearing the end of their blooming period, it puts out a burst of white clusters. The monarchs love it; and so do the bees, hairstreaks, and others. It was also a host plant for Silvery Checkerspot butterfly in my yard, then when the leaves are brown and all is left is a stalk, along comes winter and makes the beautiful namesake formations. Yep, it's a keeper for me.

Of course being from north Texas, I got my first start of Frostweed from Josephine! Thank you my friend!

I am happy to say how much I love my Frostweed plants. All 3 are blooming right now. And it just so happens that I got my first Frostweed from Josephine and the other 2 from Sheila. Thank you both!

Hello Everyone, I just found this site when I was looking for info on Frostweed. I must be doing something wrong 'cause so far I hate it. Yes, everything said about it is true; it's a lovely plant with lovely flowers. But in my all-natural bed anchored by two pines, it is so prolific. Dozens of seedlings coming up, virtually covering this large bed. Should Ijust let the plant have it's way and sit back and enjoy all the flowers?

Perfect opportunity for me to hop in so that I can tell Frostweed that my 3 frostweed plants are blooming now.

Last year I tried to save some seeds from them but was either too early or too late. Or else I just didn't recognize the seeds when I was trying to separate them from the chaff. Not that I needed seeds, just wanted to give some away.

BTW, I noticed that frostweed seeds are showing up at a couple of the local nurseries here. Won't swear to it (if I did) but think they were from Botanical Interests.

Frostweed seeds have a distinct look, I think. Wait until the flower head turns brown. There's not one in the database so here's a pic I found online :

It's the second picture down.

Thanks for the link. I might have actually gotten some right after all.

Scrolling down the link I saw a picture of some cedar waxwings. I have some Leatherleaf Mahonias that I'm always thinking I should pull up and put them out of their misery. But no more. A month or so ago when the mahonias were blooming, I happened to be outside when a flock of cedar waxwings swooped down and stripped every berry within minutes. Such an awesome thing to watch!
