Depends on where you live. It is reported to be hardy to zones 10-11.

Edit: Add - I forgot to say, sweet potatoes are a tender perennial and they cannot take any frost so are usually grown as annuals.

Database information states that it's a perennial: Sweet Potato Vine (Ipomoea batatas Illusion® Garnet Lace) but I agree with greene/mary, it would only be a perennial in zone 10 and 11.

Ipomoea batatas tubers can be dug in colder climated and stored. You can take cuttings and keep them alive indoors, then plant out in the spring. I. batatas have been the easiest plant for me to root. I have had 100% success with them. In warm weather they sometimes will have roots in a day.
