I think Linda is right about it being Sumac. There are six species in Texas.
Wildflower Center gives 11 results, several are subspecies and Rhus trilobata is a synonym for Rhus aromatica.
ok thanks all looks like it is a Prairie flame Sumac. It's been driving me nuts, love those tree and they are the only yard I see them in from here to Dallas
