I don't think the birds here have dared to try eating it, since its now nearly mid spring and all the berries are still there! On the other hand the kangaroos finally decided to chomp into it and gave them a sharp pruning!

I would gladly swap some kangaroo for deer. Sounds like they do the same kind of garden pruning.




The great blue lobelia has to be one of my favorite
It was a gift of some birds visiting my strawberry patch years ago and has happily established itself in my garden in several places.

Cinda, your Great Blue Lobelia is so pretty! I think I have seeds. If it's a perennial, I should plant some now.

I forget to plant wildflower seeds in September, they do well planted in the fall and perennial wildflowers often need some cold time.

Talking about birds getting drunk from berries ~ I think that is related to many berries that birds might eat after the berries start to ferment?

Althought the berries of pokeweed is toxic to humans, they are food for many birds and other wildlife.

Lovely Lobelia Cinda, I wish it grew well here, but our climate id too hot and dry, even with daily watering.

If it's too hot to grow for you Josephine, then it's probably the same for me... even IF we get more rain in east Texas, it's still hot. I have so many "sun loving" plants already growing in part shade, just because they like it better.

The goldenrod is in full bloom here too ,and seems to be a favorite of the honey bees.

That's Solidago 'Fireworks'. You know how it is with the Goldenrods, looks can be deceiving. It's dainty but vigorous. We do have a lot of the wild goldenrod around here as well.

Spring is fast approaching here & I have been getting out & doing a bit each day. It's been raining a lot & everything is moist. Once summer hits.... forget the moist. I haven't posted here on the wildflower forum before. So we have 6 acres & I want nothing more than tons & tons of wildflowers all over it. Easier said than done & since I refuse to use toxic stuff to kill the "grass" & such then it can be hard to get wildflowers going. I had an epiphany. Those drated pocket gophers who like to run around making mounds of dirt all over the place have inadvertently helped me with the wildflower issue. I had ordered gobs of wildflower seeds for the south. Those nice mounds of dirt are getting knocked down by me & my trowel & it makes a perfect place for planting wildflower seeds. Nice moist soil for a while yet before the summer sets in so they should germinate well. Highs in the lower 70's pretty much so I think we're ready to go! I hope this works. If it does, there will be "spots" of wildflowers spread out all over the place. Gee, I'm almost wishing now that those gophers would make a whole bunch more mounds of dirt!
