I saw this at the Oregon Garden in Silverton, OR.
Grown in the water garden area, in a somewhat boggy area.

Hurray! That is it. It doesn't open into the big impressive blooms that the hybrids do. But oh so interesting when you come upon it in a garden.

One of the local Botanical Gardens uses them in demonstration ponds, to show how plants can be used to purify water.

Awesome photo Jay.
That is where I took the photos in my above post. It is a water treatment area in the Oregon Garden. They partner up with the city of Silverton on treating the cities waste water. It has been a great success.
