Cheap and Easy Seedling Protection with a Chickenwire Tent

By nolo

In my garden, protection from birds and rabbits for a few days gives seedlings a better survival rate. The tents fold flat for storage.

That's great! It looks "industrial strength"!

I try for the same thing on a tiny scale: mainly to cats from pooping and squirrels from digging. They made my seedling beds look like victims of mortar attacks.

The support for some plastic film would also have served as a cat-deterrent on sunny days, but those were overflow potted plants that cats probably would not have bothered.

What a great idea! I wonder if it would work to keep the deer out of my broccoli. Gotta try it!

I like this! Hurray!

Using the whole piece would certainly cause less scratches than cutting a lot of sections. My hands and arms are already decorated with enough road maps of thin scars from using this material!

The ones in your picture look brand new; have you stored them yet? Do you fold them flat and then fold them again to make them fit inside a storage building?

(Then again, I guess they could be walked on to remove the high points, then re-rolled for storage...)

Great idea...thank you!

This idea works well to keep the chickens away from seedlings too. Thumbs up
