Made a lovely dish for our fall company gathering last evening and some of the ingredients came from the gardens here.

Cavatappi pasta -al dente and cooled

One cherry-colored and one orange sweet pepper (some of those Upside Down that used to be Vanilla-colored home hybrids Big Grin )
Fooled You peppers (deep dark green)
...sliced thinly in uniform lengths

Capers
Dark Kidney Beans
One slice of crisp bacon, crumbled

Radish flowers
Borage flowers

Italian-style dressing

...and garnished with Toothache Plant blooms! The salad was pretty and tasty and the party-goers had a blast sampling those after-dinner wonderments! Rolling on the floor laughing

Ack! Rolling on the floor laughing I forgot the most important (to me Big Grin ) ingredient! I also used the first of our fall edible-pod peas in this!! Yes! We finally get to eat some home grown peas! Hurray!

Hilarious! The bunnies must be tired of eating peas and decided to snack on something else at your house.

I know, right?! Rolling on the floor laughing How could I forget that? That was the main reason I posted the salad entry in the first place!! Hilarious!

Rabbits seem to be moving back into the yard gardens now...whetting their appetites for new clover next, with roses to follow, I'd wager. Rolling my eyes.

I threaten them all the time, but it seems they know I'm a softie. They just sit there at my feet and (I swear they try! Hilarious! ) grin. Big Grin

Now we do eat rabbit, but we've never harvested our own. Personally, I'd choose a homegrown spaghetti squash over rabbit any day. Smiling

I inter-planted zinnias with the peas; do you think that's helping to keep the little buggers out?

I bought a slingshot to chase squirrels away from bird feeders.

But then I realized that I didn't have the heart to hurt them. At least it motivated to run out on the deck and brandish it - good exercise for me and I'm sure it entertained the tree rats.

Later I realized that I didn't have the skill to hit them, either!

How the heck do you plant 10,000 bulbs?? Use a backhoe to dig a trench? I imagine you just dig a huge round circle to the right depth, pitch them in then cover them??

Do you leave your posts in all winter, or re-do them in spring?

chelle, those are the green coated metal fence posts and I leave them all winter.

Mary Stella, I just plant them. For instance yesterday 800 bulbs went in a dug trench that was about 16 feet long and maybe 18 inches wide. And if your asking how did they fit? They get planted in layers. Small bulbs like crocus get layered on top.

Obviously, I have bulbs all over the garden. But in my daylily beds I plant bulbs both in between the rows and then also in between the daylilies. Today I put 400 tulips and 300 crocus in a newly created daylily bed between and in front of the daylilies.

Is the white building or the red one your house. I love the pictures with the red side and stone steps coming out of the side and the beautiful tomato plants you shared in another post. cottage garden perfection in itself!

Maybe thats your garden shed or garage, but I love the quaint New England look anyway vice versa! You grow well! Smiling

The white building in the pictures above is the back of a neighbors garage. In the last picture you can see part of my reddish house. So when I stand in the backyard veggie garden, I an literally upstairs. Part of my yard is upstairs.

Those pictures you referred to of the tomato beds, that is my driveway side yard. The north side of my property. Tomato beds are between the driveway and the house.

I know I have a concrete paving stone fetish, but you COULD make that pathway sunken by 4-6 inches, and shovel the soil into the beds, raising them 1-2 inches. Then the walkway border could be 8" x 16" concrete paving stones set on edge.

That makes almost 8 fewer inches you would have to bend over when weeding! And it assures great drainage and aeration in the deep root zone.
