The thread "Caffeine attack" in Killing Slugs and Snails

I was just reading about someone running out of sluggo...Worth a try? Wonder of used coffee grounds would work as well; I'd rather drink my coffee first and then let the slugs have at it!

I don't know. I have loads of coffee grounds (my other addiction) in my compost and there are still slugs and snails all over it.

I have used it for years because slugs love, love love hostas. It has to be UNUSED COFFEE. It is the caffeine that attack their nervous system. I know coffee is expensive but I do not drink coffee and when I travel they give it to me free in the hotels.

Just so everyone is aware the used coffee grinds from Starbucks already brewed will not give you the results you desire. Used coffee grinds is good for compost but it will not do anything fo slut control.

There is still caffeine in those grounds but it would seem not enough. That's very interesting -I'd never heard it before and a nice, relatively pet friendly way to control slugs.

Yep and I am not going to change it. I hate those slim critters of the night. I have called them worst things.

Just sitting here drinking my morning coffee and reading this post and get stopped in my tracks! I love it! We need more typos like that.

Really, it is great to know that coffee used for deterring slugs should not be brewed (ground or instant, I suppose, put on the ground), but what about coffee to give plants a boost? Would that be something that works with already brewed coffee grounds?

I never noticed this thread when it appeared the first time! I sure am glad I saw it this time, just for the most perfect typo ever!

Tina, my neighbor in Utah used to go to all the local coffee shops and get their used coffee grounds for his compost pile. He'd bring home probably a 5 gallon bucket full every week. Sadly, his entire yard was pretty much a compost pile, as he never seemed to plant anything but a tiny garden. He gave me compost whenever I wanted it, and it was fantastic stuff. I did a massive amount of ivy removal in his yard in return, because it was a horrible mess, and I couldn't stand living next door to it. His favorite words were organic material, and he worked them into every sentence.

He died almost a year ago, and I am positive that he would be happy knowing that he is now organic material.

....on the other hand, we did bury a morning dove that *banged* into the house and perished instantly ... she's in the garden now, helping a fuchsia plant grow.
