Welcome, Sheila! yes, definitely a great bucket list item -- maybe we could have a group tour! Smiling

Where we used to live in Eastern OR, we were told that particular area was a migratory corridor. One year we had a steady stream of Monarchs flying about 20 ft west of our house! Must have lasted a couple of days. Just this huge ribbon of butterflies. Amazing.

I have no idea why, but I have nowhere near the Monarch - or any other type of butterfly, for that matter - activity this year. Perhaps just some natural cycle? (on the upside, not as many cabbage butterflies, either!) We do, however, have cicadas buzzing away this year, somewhat unusual here. Maybe all the terrible weather through the midsection of the country hampered the Monarch migration to our area this year?

Maybe they all came over here! I'm seeing lots more butterflies this year than in previous years, even though my garden isn't doing nearly as well as the last couple of years. Mostly Swallowtails, tho.
