here's few from yesterday. There are several Re's that look quite similar, but I think Earl of Essex is probably the most widely distributed. Arlyn

Wow, love that rich, black soil. Mine is such heavy clay.

Mine, too. If have to live with an extreme, though, would rather have clay than sand.

Gee -- I'm not sure Arlyn -- it seems like the one I saw was purplier. Soil could make a difference, though.

Soil sure does affect the color, but check out Duke of Earl on the Wiki( Don't have a pic of that one , myself), it has a more purple, or raspberry color. There are several in what I call "the royal family" ,all re-bloom, and all are plics . But, also, Jesse's Song HAS been known to re bloom! ...Arlyn

There are many plicatas that rebloom. If you go to the Iris Database and click on "search be characteristics" you get the advanced search page:

http://garden.org/plants/group...

Then click "Rebloom" under the Bloom Season Field and "Plicata" under the Flower Pattern Field and you should see 77 entries. That's not even a complete list because much data still needs to be entered into the database

These three have rebloomed for me a one time or another (all have Earl of Essex as a parent).

Ah! Thanks, Kent. Who knew that there would be so many varieties of similar coloration in rebloomers. I'm really admiring that Bountiful Harvest. I'm inclined to prefer Irises with crisp color patterns.

Midsummer Nights Dream is in bloom. Picture coming tomorrow. I also noticed that I have a third cultivar with a stalk up. That would be Sterling Innerst's "Over & Over"!

Over & Over

Thumb of 2013-10-05/Misawa77/e83b1a

This was moved on the 4th of July weekend; and it is going to bloom!

I now have 5 confirmed stalks for "Again & Again" with a 6th a possibility! Three of these stalks are increases off of one rhizome that bloomed in the Spring (on May 8th).

So far this year I have had "Again & Again" blooming at three different times and this next "show" will be the fourth.

May 8th.

Update:

Again & Again ; now I have 7 bloom stalks showing with two of them about to open any day now. Both are tall(no stunting)and have 8 + buds!

Over & Over ; This one fizzled out. Bloom stalk didn't get any taller than the picture above and bloom was deformed.

Midsummer Nights Dream ; 2nd bud about to open.

Now I have a 4th re-bloomer showing up.

911 Remembered (aka Nine Eleven Remembered) is showing a bloom stalk start. This cultivar has tried valiantly to "re" bloom the last three years with no success. It always gets "zapped" by the frost (even though I have covered it). This time around I paid more (better if you will) attention to it and it has responded by putting up this stalk earlier than in the past! Lovey dubby

Now I have the following crazy stuff going on.

A second cultivar of "Midsummer Nights Dream" now has a stalk. That is not crazy.

So...

Hows about these two with stalks rising?

Merlot

&

Finsterwald

Neither bloomed in the Spring (these rhizomes as I did have others that did) so they must think it is "Springtime"; either that or they are "Southern" Hemispheric!
