I have a ton of seed pods on my Hosta and I plan on starting some of them. There are 3 which I am certain of, Silver Star and Curly Fries because I want to see if some have interesting form and some on a streaked seedling. Are you planning on starting any?

I've collected some seeds from Fickle Blue Genes again this year. Hope I get something streaked from those! I'll winter sow mine outside again. Seems to work and there isn't the problem with gnats when you do it outside.

Good luck to both of you! I hope you get a special seedling from you collection of seeds!

@Rose1656 when do you "winter sow" your seeds in the ground? I am curious of your process -- so when you gather the seeds... then hat... do you freeze for awhile etc etc??

Christine,

I gather the seed pods before they open. I let them dry out and then I clean the seeds. I plant them in milk jugs around the first of the year and just leave them until they start showing signs of life (if I'm lucky) in the spring.

There's a really good site with lots of information...www.wintersown.org that can help you get started.

Thanks Rose! I harvested some Empress Wu and Climax last year -- I left them on the counter in dixie cups... they dried out and cracked open and tons off seeds were in each pod..... then one day they were gone -- I asked the DH and he said "Oh i didnt know what they were so I threw them away"! Blinking

I was so mad!! Angry Angry

So anyways -- we will maybe do it again!! Hurray!

Christine,

Good thing Empress Wu has lots of seeds! Maybe this year you might want to label the cups!
