I have an alphabetical table organized by year of purchase (but I forgot to include my sources). My categories are Name, Hybridizer/Date, Ht, Fl Size, Season, Dor/Sev/Ev, Dip/Tet, Color/Description.

Much the same, I use an excel spreadsheet that has everything Boojum just listed... I do also include where I bought the plant.

I do the same thing for my tomatoes.

At one time, I built my own database using the Mac program Filemaker Pro. That was when I had hundreds of named daylilies. Now, I am down to less than 75 named ones, so I just keep a handwritten list.

I am having a hard time figuring out how to catalog all my thousands of photos. They are on multiple removable hard drives.

I always record where I got the plant and what I paid for it and the year I got it. Besides info about the plant itself and where I planted it. Then I try to keep a pic of each one too.

I'm an Excel girl. I guess I have about 550 named cultivars right now and that is the easiest way for me to store a lot of info and print labels when I need them.

We have ours in Excel. We include the daylily name, hybridizer, year registered, bloom size, scape height, ploidy, a brief description that comes from the AHS database, and label doubles, unusual forms, spiders, and polys . We plan to add a column for recording the location once we label each bed. This I still want to do this winter, and we are running out of days. We bought the Plant Step Program after we already had several hundred in Excel. We never changed over to Plant Step. Maybe we will do that some other winter. A future project is to add pictures of each daylily taken in our garden. I hope to get the pictures taken this bloom season.

I use an Excel spreadsheet and am in the process of creating an Access database. I have the database for my irises pretty well done except for adding some of the photos.

I also have the PlantStep program and really love it. One thing some people may not be aware of is that it is intended for use with many kinds of plants.

There are categories for all the following: Daylilies, Lilium, Roses, Irises, Hostas, Perennials, Trees and shrubs, Wild Flowers, Herbs, and Vegitables.

I have used several plant programs over the years but I now use excel for registered plants. I always have a backup on a disc, I lost two hard drives last fall and lost lots of pictures and other info. I now have a new computer and back up anything important to me on a disc. Will get an external harddrive soon.
My seedling cross's are kept in hand written spiral note books. I have a record of every cross I made since 1996. I do them this way because I can take the book to the seedling patch when they start blooming. There's a number in the top of the PVC pipe and that number is written in the book with the cross beside it.

Also a good idea to have a removable drive to put copy of photos and important things on and keep at someone else's house in case your house gets broken into and computer equipment stolen.

I have 2 Firelite 80 gig firewire drives that I swap out every few weeks with photos etc. on. Keep the other at a friends house.
