Many thanks for the welcome. I will post some blooms. Because it is spring here, all the daylilies are in flower at the moment. My garden revolves around wildlife. However, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos can remove a lot of blooms in one tantrum so I stop feeding them at this time.

Hi Gleni. Wanna swap some cockatoos for my penguins? Rolling on the floor laughing

Silly mood. Yay for the earth's axis, tilt, poles, internet and digital photography, eh? That way we can all enjoy the season and latitude we're not having. *silly happy dance*

Thanks Jan Smiling

Thanks Della. I just love penguins! I am looking forward to seeing what you have flowering in Tasmania. Do you mainly have dormants?

This Sulphur-crested Cockatoo annihilated several daylilies and scapes. They are a stunning, large birds but colourful scapes are just too attractive to them. Sometimes up to 15 arrive and I have a heart attack.

That looks just like the kind of bird my brother had as a pet. He had it for about 20 years before it passed. It's surprising that they would destroy scapes like that. You think of most birds either being bug eaters or seed and fruit eaters.

ooohh, I'm not the most consistent poster, Gleni. :D

But what do I grow here? Sprouting seeds, mostly Hilarious! I've only just caught the bug, and have put in a few hybrids from mainland nurseries - evergreen, semi-evergreen and dormant - to see what likes it best, but it will take a few seasons to judge. We really don't get that cold - not like frozen ground for months cold! - because we're so maritime. I think it's the short winter daylight hours that have more impact. We'll see.

As for destructive birds... Hemlady, I hope you never see a spoilt Cocky throwing a fit of revenge! Friends of the family used to feed wild cockies on their deck. It became a bit overwhelming, so they stopped putting out food. The angry birds tore the deck to pieces! Or so they say Rolling on the floor laughing I bet daylily scapes taste a whole lot better than treated pine decking nodding

They will also de-cone an entire pine tree to rip out the immature pine seeds, not to mention what they can do to crops....

But I'm having my own private battle with sparrows! The little featherballs have been building nests over my windows for months - took me ages to figure out who was stealing my seedling labels (I had string attached)... so many noids this year. Then when I removed all the string tempatation, they took to shredding my new bamboo shoots... and last week they discovered the daylily seedlings! Fortunately they only got two - and one of those I found dropped between the seedling boxes and the window - before I cottoned on to what was happening. Everything that disappears now I just blame the sparrows. I used to think it was the kids! Hilarious!

Oh my, never knew sparrows could be so nasty. I have had bluejays steal my mini blind daylily signs. Had to stop using them for that reason. Seen it with my own eyes or I would not have believed it. I was blaming it on the squirrels. Hilarious!

I have lots of birds. Two of my next door neighbors feed them, but then they come to my place to do their natural roosting, foraging, etc. Along with eating berries, so far, they have only raided my ripening lily seed pods and poked in my succulent Sempervivums for moisture when there is a drought.

Gee, I hope my neighbors never stop feeding them!
