I grow morning glories on this arch every year, but I wasn't sure it was going to make it this year; several of the vines I set out went south on me. But there were enough volunteers to fill in!

Most morning glories are not invasive. The I. purpureas will drop lots of seeds, but they are annuals and easily yanked out, if you decide you don't want them. Probably see lots of seedlings for a few years, but they're about as invasive as petunias or poppies. Hilarious! Heh, I dumped out some old pots from the garden into my wheelbarrow and it got rained on. Guess what's trying to grow in the wheelbarrow?

MG's in the wheelbarrow! Now, I like that idea; I bet it's the prettiest wheelbarrow on the block! Lovey dubby

I've been waiting for my husband to get a new wheelbarrow for a few years now so that I can confiscate the old one .... I want to drill a few holes in the bottom (if it's not totally rusted out) and plant stuff to spill over the sides. That old barrow has duct tape around the wooden handles because of splinters and it looks really shabby but he still uses it, every time a tire goes flat he fixes it ... I think I might buy him a shiny new wheelbarrow for Christmas so that I can get the old one to plant up next spring. Green Grin!

Good to know! Most years, I use pre-emergent. Not this year, and boy am I paying for it. Weeds everywhere. I have a long fence that would be great for M G

I saw some in the little town I live near blooming their little fool heads off, just a couple weeks ago, so, so pretty. This little town has a garden club that does an a,axing job with planting things around the old buildings, fences etc. it really is beautiful.

So pretty, Woofie--and so full! About how many vines do you estimate that is?

That's a bunch. Too many to count, even if you could have seen the planter. And yes, there are large planters on either side. But, depending on conditions, a single vine can cover a lot territory! One year I grew a couple of Japanese morning glories on my back porch and they completely filled the windows. And this past year I had one growing in a pot on my front porch that crawled all over my 5 ft tall shelf unit.

Good thing I'm collecting lot of seeds in trades! Do MGs stay open a little longer if they're in a partly shaded location?

Yes, sometimes they do. The one I mentioned growing on my front porch this year (on the shady side of the porch) had blooms stay open into the next day several times! I'd never had that happen before.
