Thanks Tara-
This picture was from a couple of years ago. That garden got to be way overcrowded; so it had to be completely dug and re-planted. It is just now getting up to speed with fairly decent clumps again. We'll see what it looks like again in the coming spring and maybe post an update Smiling . Again, thanks!

It's such a great photo any day of the year but a blessing with all this snow on the ground.

Thanks Arlene, I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever end. There is so much clean-up to do if spring ever gets here. Sad

Yikes!

I can only guess that Miami County was named by someone who enjoyed teasing people! How cruel.

Arlene,
Most folks think of Miami, FL when they hear that word, but the truth is that Miami County, IN is named after the Miami Nation of native Americans whose descendants still live throughout northern Indiana, Michigan & Illinois. My wife's grandfather was descended from these people. The following is courtesy of Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M...

"The Miami (Miami-Illinois: Myaaniaki) are a Native American nation originally speaking one of the Algonquian languages. Among the peoples known as the Great Lakes tribes, it occupied territory that is now identified as Indiana, southwest Michigan, and western Ohio. By 1846, most of the Miami had been removed to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). The Miami Tribe of Oklahoma is the only federally recognized tribe of Miami Indians in the United States. The Miami Nation of Indiana is an unrecognized tribe." (The tribe is still 'officially' unrecognized, but are very much organized and respected locally by many including myself.) Some of this is very sad because of the less than humane treatment of these noble people at the hands of the military during the deportation to Oklahoma. It was a far cry from the movies & TV accounts.

Our temperature was a balmy -9*F when I checked at about 7:00 am. We had a lot of sun and a coating of frost. So I took a few pictures to remember what it was like on this day when I complain about the heat and humidity in August! Sad Here's what it looked like at my place this morning -9*F. Somewhere beneath all that snow are irises, daylilies, roses and a bunch of other perennials. Smiling

Thanks, Leon. It's always good to learn the story behind the names of places.

We have many towns out here that were given names by the native Americans. Southold's original name was Yennicott.

We'll all enjoy your photos again on the hot days of summer.
