Okay, here are some more name changes.
These are the semps from Andre Smits that we had in the database under the name of Silver and have been changed to Zilver in the below semps. However both names will bring up the plant in the database. But it would be good to change the name to Zilver in your collections so we don't propagate the incorrect name.
Zilver Andre

Well, in my mind, when this topic came up, was the general question of "how do we handle names when there is language translation involved" What happens when multiple words used in a name can be translated into other languages? Silver or Zilver Olympic is not much of a problem, because there is, I think, a universally accepted name "Olympic" that spans all languages but what about "Silver Baby" vs "Zilver (baby in german). Just asking questions here as I don't know if there are rules to use. Perhaps a better question would be did Mr. Smits name a plant "Zilver Masquerade" or was the "Masquerade" translated?

I ran into this issue when looking at Geiger's site while using Google Translate. Sometimes the names of the plants were translated, sometimes not.

Hi twit

names should never be translated or adapted to other languages!!!!!

so it might be the better way not to use Google Translation to look on other semps-sites;

the name is the creation of the breeder with every single letter; and sometimes only one changed letter and the name belongs to a totally different plant;

that's the reason why we in germany even use all the letters how é, è and so on (and in eastern europe there are some strange signs around the letters); we don't use them in our language but they belong to the names;

Andre Smit's original name for the above semps is Zilver.
What I have done is to give the entry the original (correct) name, then add 'Also sold as' to the entry, so it can be found under either name.
I believe all of them should have the original/correct name and the translated name.

I think what has to be done when looking at names on European sites would be to see the name in that language. That would be the correct and original name.
Some of Andre's semps do have the original name of Silver, without it being translated.
You can see this on both Peter's site and Horst's site when looking at the German version.

Our problem is that the search engine here won't find the ones with the symbols over the letters. Sad

is it a problem of the software? our software use that signed letters equal to the normal;

e = é = è

Thanks, Lynn. I tried to add it, but got a screen that made no sense and had no buttons or links to finalize it.

Time for discussion on the three entries for S. erythraeum / S. marmoreum subsp. erythraeum. http://garden.org/plants/searc...

This is the correct plant for the name S. marmoreum subsp. erythraeum with the synonym name of S. erythraeum.

My plant came from North Hills Nursery. It would be helpful to find out where each of you obtained your plants.

This plant came from Simply Succulents, and is incorrect.
