Not sure this counts exactly, but a grower farther norrth had Purple Eyed Dragonfly (Lambertson 2007). She loved the bloom, but the plant did not love her zone! She sent her plant south to me and I sent her a couple of fans of Paint It Black in trade. We both are happy.

I tossed out a lot this year. Well actually gave them away, since I cannot compost anything that blooms. I had a trade from a DGer who was going to send me some gorgeous daylilies. Turned out they were mostly all ones she had hybridized, and I just didn't like the washed out purple colors. So, out they went.

So I started looking for a few daylilies, just a few, and I've simply been amazed at the progress in daylilies since I last looked.

I ordered a couple from Bently Gardens, and a few from Kathysflowerpatch. With huge eyes, and chicken fat.

And now......I thought I would get a final order in with Marietta. What a mistake that was to look at their website.

Would someone PLEASE reassure me they have no good daylilies after pages A and B?

Good luck with that one! I was just going to order BLISSFUL BLACKBERRY PIE and CARNIVAL IN MEXICO from them, and I ended up with two orders over $400 later! But they sent me a couple of really nice ones of theirs as bonus plants, so I'm a happy camper...

Polly, Marietta is a fine place to order from. I have visited them, and they are great people too. I grew one of their plants, Sunset Lagoon, for years and years... super branching and budcount, and it is one of the daylilies I miss since I cut down and don't grow anymore. Lovely thing even though it was not a "fancy" one with bubbly edges and all that stuff. I also loved their Good Flight. They send really nice plants - you will not be disappointed.

Marietta is one of the best on the web, they are both kind, John is funny if you ever get him on the phone. He likes to tease. I agree you can't go wrong. I have only 3 that I order from anymore Marietta, Maryott and Whitetop daylily farm. I agree

Juli do you have any young gardeners in your area that you could mentor one of the older ladies in a local garden club mentored a young man he came and weed the gardens early in the spring and did divisions that he sold with her help he got part of the funds for his work and the remainer of the funds she used to hire him throughout the season to weed and plant... she had the knowledge he had the brawn... and he learned what to do and what plants were what...

French Lingerie is rally nice though not purple here is a photo if you got it as a single fan it might take a while to bloom or maybe it was to deep and needed to make a new crown wait for a while before you take it outThumb of 2010-11-23/hanesh/b34091

I have been lucky for the most part I try now to buy from a local lady where I can see them growing write down my favorites and get them in the following years... I now purchase many lycett/ lorrain hybrids or Lorrain as they are thick petalled are not splotty and don't get alot of rain damage as we are a damp area

thanks for the idea hanesh. I have contacted my local vocational school several times about someone coming to help. Even tried the boy scouts. Recently, a woman was let go from a local nursery, where she worked for over 20 years due to the economy. She has been caring for my beds since then... a few months now. She is reasonable, and knows as much or more than I do. so that helps.

I tend to give plants away to anyone here who will dig them, divide a piece off for me, and replant it. Helps me, helps them.

I like French Lingerie. Looks like it would mix well with one of my seedlings. I will have to look it up.

French Lingerie (Heemskerk, 2006)

I have never heard of this hybridizer. But, then, I don't get to symposiums etc. any more so there are probably a lot of new people out there.

Hanesh.... You don't say what zone you live in... if you are in the south, maybe it would not do well for me here.

Rebloomnut said it didn't bloom there, but that is zone 3/4.

I had French Lingerie, but it wasn't happy here (5b), and didn't survive '09 winter. It's so pretty too. I had it planted with hot pink petunias. Bummer!

I got my two from a nursery and they had photo tags in them. Mine bloomed closed to the photo on the tag. They may have been mislabeled. That's what I get for buying something because the picture was pretty. I was really disappointed when neither one made it through the winter and they were in my unheated greenhouse along with 100+ other DL's that made it. I should have planted them in the ground, maybe they would have survived with mulching. I was lazy the fall of '09. I don't have any DL's in the greenhouse this winter. Hubby, daughter and I got them all tagged and lined out in the ground in October. We had unusually warm weather up until the last couple days. Last night it was 12 degrees. What a difference! I dread what's coming.

French Lingerie (Heemskerk, 2006) height 24", bloom 6", season M, Rebloom, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, Lavender with gold and cream edge above yellow throat.

French Lingerie is being wholesaled by a lot of companies to a lot of nurseries. When they start selling a daylily, or any other plant for that matter through the Dutch wholesale trade, they are going to get mixed up. Often what happens is any daylily that even looks similar gets a tag stuck on it.

When you start seeing them sold from Brecks and places like that, you can be sure they're getting mixed up in the trade.
