Sorry still no camera but I see buds on my thanksgiving cacti already. Cant wait to see the bloom!! I will make shure to post them. People always complain their plants dont bloom but the secret is to put them outside and let them get alittle cold, but no frost. They need shorter daylengths and alittle cold to flower

Not yet, lots of tiny new pink things all of the time, but they have all been 'leaves' so far. It's still 85/90 here daytime, 65/70 at night. If it has anything to do with temp, they haven't gotten the message yet. Only succumbed to getting these last Thanksgiving, so no talk about 'usually' from me. Really hoping for a great show though. I, uh, went a little overboard, getting 9 of them. They're around the yard, in slightly different exposures, even one in a giant washtub planter at the base of a tree. All but that one will be coming in when frost threatens. I look forward to reporting on what happens, and hearing more about other peoples' plants!

It is in the 70s and 60s during the day and 40s and 50s at night. A couple of times near a frost, so the cold and lower dalyight hours are going to start in your area later than mines, me being a northerner

I believe it is the length of sunlight we recieve during the day. Typically I see flowers in October and March. I don't always see flowers on my CC's, but more often than not I do. I should probably take a look at mine to see what they are doing Sticking tongue out

I take mine out every Spring I will not bring them in until we start to get predicted frost nights.

I have never failed to have blooms. I even get a second bloom flush about March. I do not have any buds yet we have been pretty warm at night and daylight.

Rhamel, you are having buds very early for Holiday Cactus, especially in your location but it does not surprise me. The plants are confused just like the weather. Those of us here in the East Coast are still watching our CC and Holiday Cactus shoot new growth. It will be another few weeks before we see actual buds forming. Those little pink leaves can fool you sometimes. The early hybrids should be showing buds by the middle or the end of October even the beginning of November...depending on their species and environment. You are correct, they need shorter days and cool night temps and that is why some people put theirs in closets, to help them bloom. I have never done that since I have so many, not enough closets. Rolling on the floor laughing The ones in the greenhouse go with the normal length of the days and now our days are getting shorter and with daylight time changing it will be dark by 5 P.M. so we will see them make some changes in their growing habits for sure. When you think about it, it is amazing how these plants all have their own little way of life, just like people. Thumbs up

Jacquie, I usually have a lot of buds by now but because as you said we have had weird weather. There as so much rain and cooler this year. I have a few buds and I think it is the ones that usually bloom earlier than others.

I think Pa is cooler than your area so I usually do have a lot of buds in Sept. but not this Sept.

I must check my plants tomorrow when I have time and see if any are budding. I usually notice if they are but this is a bit too early for mine I am sure. They are still growing and are getting really big. Of course, I also cut much of mine off and they are now plants in the greenhouse but even with the cuttings taking much of the blooms off, there are still a few that I miss and they will show buds. I try not to take more than 6 or 8 cutting off each year. Next year I will have a dozen or more new varieties but this year I did not want to cut the new plants.
I like them to get a bit older before I propagate from the new plants. It is such fun....you should try it. Green Grin!

I really dont care about when they bloom as long as they bloom. i also get another flush during Easter, really interrminent from october to april! I always get extended bloom. This is the earliest I have ever seen buds. I even had a single flower in July Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Can you imagine!!!

I never gotten a flower in July on my Christmas Cactus. The Easter cactus bloomed during the Spring and summer. You must really make them happy.

Many of my stock plants and some of the starter plants have buds. I am very surprised unless it is because we had so many cloudy days.
