I asked this over in the container forum and it hit me I really should have posted the question here. I found this on sale at my local Nursery and was planning to use it to mount my Orchid.

What is your opinion of this medium for mounting and has anyone used it with success. I am trying it with one of my plants that I have a lot of and can afford to loose.

Osmunda Fiber.

Cinta, I know this fiber use to be used years ago but I have never seen it for sale here and thus not tried it. I think it became hard to get and therefore expensive, so it was replaced by fir bark and other medium. From what I have read, I think it would be interesting to experiment with. You would have to play with how tight you pack it in the pot and keep an eye on the pH value. I hear it is acidic, down to about 4.0. I'm not sure how well it retains moisture. Best of luck and let us know how you like it.

Thank you Jim. You are always there for me with the help. It does not look like it is going to hold much moisture. I am thinking of mixing it with some moss,.
