Tatsoi might even grow all winter for you there. Or at least most of it. Light snow isn't supposed to stop it.

Especially if I use hoops and plastic. I wonder if I have the energy to do that again?

I guess we will see. Smiling

Raining today so no gardening. No gardening anyway as I am too busy doing housework. Yeck, hate cleaning house.

Oh yes, the rain did come! So I didn't have to go to the farm and groceries can wait until tomorrow! But it's been raining kind of hard, not so good. Strawberry transplants will enjoy but seeds, not so much.

Yep, just checked and I do have some seeds. A few years old, not sure if they're still good but worth a shot.

I've never been able to grow spinach in my climate (winters are too cold, summers are too hot, and spring and fall are neither one long enough), and Malabar is the best substitute I've found. It really has a similar flavor to me (unlike chard or Brassicas), though the texture is definitely different. I like it in dishes where you only need a little bit of greens, like pasta or pizza, not just sauteed on its own or in a salad Shrug!

It's a tropical, so it thrives in the heat. It can be a bit slow to start for me, but it will grow like crazy during the sticky part of summer, and usually hangs around until first frost (which may be January).

Same here, Bit.

I used warmed soil in a big pot, but my plants were very slow to get going. Our season here begins too cool and is just a tad short for it, I think.

Picked tomatoes and had enough to give some to my neighbor plus ones for me. I simply can not believe it. All these tomatoes I am still getting and here it is October 9th.

My summer squash are long, long gone but my cucumbers produced all thru September. Still, tomatoes win the prize because they are still producing well.

These tomatoes of yours in the picture look great. It sure is nice getting fresh tomatoes this late. Thumbs up

It sure is!

Had a bizarre moment while I was at the market the other day...I couldn't think of any fresh produce that I really needed. It never seems like I get around to growing as much as I'd like to, but I guess it's still just about enough. Smiling

Are those one of the "Boy" varieties, Rita? I think the ones we're still getting are from a seedling of Big Boy...from tomatoes originally tossed there years ago.

Big boys still producing here and I did pick both Big Boy and Better Boy but not sure which are in that pile I took a picture of. I got them all mixed up because I love them both so didn't care which is which. I gave some to my neighbor.

Great looking tomatoes!!! So jealous. I have some tomatoes, but mine are more the size of plums...but they're still good too. Amazing that it's Oct. and they're still going strong. Enjoy them while you can!

Checked my broccoli yesterday and I have several plants starting to head up. A couple of weeks and we'll have plenty to cook and make some soup. Cauliflower isn't doing much though, or brussells sprouts and looks like voles ate the roots of my cabbage. If I'm lucky I'll get one cabbage and we love cabbage. I'll probably start some more and put under plastic.

It's my first time growing Brussels sprouts. They look like they're trying to form, but what's there is really loose and open-centered. Do you think they'll fill in more later?

I read someplace that Brussels need perfect conditions to form those tight centers.

I never did plant cauliflower or broccoli for this fall so I guess I will have to do without. Oh well, the store has plenty.
