The stories are all very good. It is going to be a tough decision to pick 3. I will be reading them several times I think before I can make a decision.

Voting certainly is not going to be easy....I just read through all the stories and I think I've gained 10 pounds Blinking I wonder if the hybridizers have any idea how entertaining the names they choose can be when put into the hands of creative writers! Does anyone know where (or what) Turkey Lurkey comes from?

I only know Turkey Lurkey is from a Burt Bacharach production, a type of dance, I think.

The stories are great! I've read through them several times today.

How many pounds did you gain??? Rolling on the floor laughing Who knew there were so many delicious treats in daylilies. A dance..interesting...Burt Bacharach was a household name. My Dad was a pro photographer and I'm pretty sure I have a photos of him somewhere here. The stories brought back fond memories and hearing Turkey Lurkey as a kid is one of them.

Figured it out. Finally broke down and googled it. Rolling my eyes. There WAS a dance Turkey Lurkey Time from the musical "Promises, Promises" and what I think I was remembering it from, the story of Chicken Little who had an Acorn fall on his head.

Gosh, these stories are good. I will have to read them several times.

Maybe after the contest is over, someone can find all the daylily names that were missed in the stories. I found one and it just made me wonder how many others there might be.

Margo Reed, hybridizer of Turkey Lurkey was/is ( not sure if she retired or not) a kindergarten teacher and you can see that reflection in quite a few of her names. Foxy Loxy, After A While Crocodile, etc !

I'm wondering too. Do you mean someone forgot or missed capitalizing a daylily name when they were writing?

I've forgotten where I saw it, but I think in one or more of the stories when a daylily name was used more than once, the second time it was used it wasn't in caps. It might have been in Juli's example though. In any case the number of daylilies mentioned will only be needed in case of a tie, and at that point we will only count each name in the story once, no matter how many times it might have been used. But we will be very careful with the counting of them if we need to count them at all. Smiling
