All my fall blooming perennials are at least halfway through their bloom. It is a very strange year.

But I just planted Maryland Mayhem about 1 month ago -- weird!!! I'll have to let you know when it blooms!

Blue Winged Warbler is stunning. Still a few blooms here, but even the ones if good bloom look bad because the foligage is so burned out this time of the year. Lady Betty Fritz did give me a rebloom scape, but is looking a little fried.

Harvest Hue is one of my best August bloomers.

Wings of Angels just had it's last flower a few days ago.

Stephanie, I have not seen anyone post a photo of Alexandra in a long time. I have a lovely print of a painting of it done by Rich Haynes. And, one of my favorite seedlings is from it. It didn't grow very well here, sorry to say, but my seedling from it does much better. It is Alex x Concrete Blonde. It has CB's raised ridges, but is really big, and round. You see a lot these wide petals these days, but it first bloomed in 2001 and I really thought I had something! Here is the throat of the seedling... it is a little blurry because it was so close...

Everyones blooms are just gorgeous. Gives me a push to get out and weed and get mine ready for next year.

As for the name of the forum....august blooms. Im afraid thats an oximoron(sp) down here.

No blooms of daylilies but I sure do look looking at all of yours.

Daylily that is awesome. I have Alexandra mainly to use in breeding and will start some crosses with it next year. I have added a lot of plants this year for that purpose but did not want to stress them with seed until they were established well. CB is a great plant by the way and should make great crosses with other things too.
Alexandra has not been a real fast increaser but it blooms for a long time and seems to maintain bloom size through the season here.

I don't think I have ever seen Concrete Empire anywhere here in Ohio. Concrete Blonde, however..... love it. Ohio born and bred.

Before August's blooms get closed out, I thought I'd add a few. I still have some blooming, however, like everyone else the season appears to be winding down many weeks before normal.

Butterpat, a (bonus) dormant, may turn out to be a hard dormant. The foliage is as miniscule (6" long) as when I received it 2+ years ago, and it may need a real chill to prosper:

(Spunky's/Fred's) Lillian's Fringe Benefits. Because the summer was so cool it developed very delicate fringe, but who knows what it may do here if we have warm temps next year!


Make Believe Magic - another fringed beauty - definitely had a more prominent edge last year when summer temps were warmer:

Rice's Memorable Kiss. This is a powerhouse of a daylily that I bought last year from James Hall on LA. The '2 fans plus increase' turned out to be 5 fans, and these have doubled for me since last autumn. Moreover, it's continuing to send up scapes! At the rate that it's going, it may be the last still blooming at the end of the season.


Peach Rum Festival. Bless you Susan (Stilldew/lincolnitess) for suggesting this daylily! It started blooming on the 17th, and thus far has 8 scapes. It's just great to see something entirely new this late in the season!



Rose Mary Dixon. Despite some problems opening when it's chilly here, she sure can be lovely! : )



Wild About Sherry. This dl is fairly good when it's cool - and certainly eye catching!



Victorian Lace. As with Rose Mary Dixon, VL does *not* like chilly weather, though is great when temps edge up to 70.
