I "thought" that the hanging basket of purslane on the patio was for me, hummers and butterflies to enjoy. NOT...this morning I spotted a squirrel sitting in the middle of the basket happily munching away Went to get the camera, but the dogs spotted it and off it went....likely to bigger and better grazing Oh well...guess they need vitamin C too

Tis a never ending battle for me....now I really get upset when they eat the birdfeeders Other stuff will/should recover. They are fun to watch though...especially when they miss a branch and fall to the ground

I must admit I've never caught them eating purslane...yet! But I put out so much birdseed and peanuts to feed the birds, they're probably very well-fed just with that and also the liveoak acorns. I'm always seeing them scarfing down that stuff. Nobody has ever convinced them they're not birds!
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White
Integrity can never be taken. It can only be given, and I wasn't going to give it up to these people. Gary Mowad
this is true. I have seen them going for other plants in hanging baskets, but this was the first time I saw one sitting in one munching away. That particular basket is 3-4 years old...it goes in the GH every fall and WAS really lush and full. Oh well it will grow strong and "prosper" this winter. I hope
