I have the new Handbook, it's now regular paper size, I had to buy a school note book to put it in. I liked the small version much better, all changes are not good. The poly change is explained in the new book.

A great read, but for us newbies, what have been the break throughs since 2010?
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

I would add 'Decatur Piecrust' to the ruffles/teeth breakthroughs. (and possibly 'Round Table' as a source of ruffling in tets.)
Waving Winds x Round Table -> Decatur Piecrust, (Decatur Piecrust × (sdlg × (Lahaina × Yuma))) -> Forestlake Ragamuffin
(sdlg × Round Table) -> Dance Ballerina Dance

I am interested in becoming a garden judge. I didn't know the info was available on the AHS site. I am hoping it also gives the requirements of how many evaluations you do to stay certified.

Thank you, Julie!

I don't think you have to do any number of evaluations to stay certified, just visit a number of daylily gardens each year and take a refresher course every five years. I have to do my refresher next year at our spring regional. Anyone AHS member(I think you have to be a member of AHS for three years) wanting to become a garden can do so by attending the two clinics at any spring meeting with AHS certified instructors.

Thank you, Julie and Fred for the information. I have no problem with the garden visits per year. It is one of my favorite summer things to do!

I have been an AHS member about 10 yrs, so I have that cover too. Hurray!

I have never been to a National yet. I am planning on attending the one in Louisville in 2016.

No daylilies blooming but my burning bushes are on FIRE!

Sorry, Charlie for straying from the subject. I am ready to see more on that too.

I would like to know about green throats, is it a trait that is easy to past to seedlings?

I hate being the last poster in a thread: anymore breakthroughs in the last two years?

Well I enjoyed reading this tread even if old. So maybe some of the hybridizers on here could comment of some of the new breakthroughs now that it is 2020. I would love to contribute with some of the breakthroughs I have make with my three year effort, but I have found three years is really just enough time to start learning what it is all about. I would love for Char to show some of her accomplishments, being Sculpted Relief is one of my favorites, and she had developed some very showy Sculpted Cristates too I think, those surely are a new development I would think.

This is an old thread. Took a few minutes to read what has been previously posted and can think of a few more important "breakthroughs" that haven't been mentioned.
Seeing Kathy's pink with the vibrant orange throat made me think of the large green throats that have become the "in" thing. Doorakian's 2007 Rose F. Kennedy, both dip and the tet conversion appears to have put this in motion, but before that Tim Herrington was working on the large green throats as far back as 1998, Calypso Green, maybe sooner.

Variegated flowers have really taken off. The stripes, Derrow's Pink Stripes (2006) and Lovell's Peppermint Ice (2004) are two of the early striped ones I can think of.

Then there's Steve's Clown Pants (2015) with stripes on the sepals.

The broken color pattern...
Augie's Unique Beauty (Krupien 2007), Explosion in the Paint Factory (Howard 2013) and Undefinable (DeVito 2014)

Doctor Strangelove (Cochenour 2007) which seems to show several variations of this color pattern group.

Color changers, I don't grow any so I'm going to wing it. Thinking Foar Bizar (Riggle 2001) may have been the first one. Pigment of Imagination (Norris 2008) was the cv that had the daylily world talking about this odd color pattern. I'm not sure if In a Jiffy (Salter EH 2012) showed color changing but it was used by Larry Grace for several of his color changer intro's.

I'm sure I missed some important breaks, additions/corrections anyone?
Let me think on the Sculpted, Larry.
