I am late to the conversation. I am sorry you are having animal problems. I feel your pain. I have deer, rabbit and groundhogs. I love Hostas and I moved to a property that is over run with animals. I am fighting them constantly.

This Hosta was 5 ft wide and 4 ft tall. In one night it was gone except for the stems.

I moved it from my old house and needed a dolly to move.

This is what it looked like the next morning after I planted it.

If you get another Hosta and plant it in a pot. The soil breaks down and every year you need to lift the Hosta and add more soil to the bottom to lift the Hosta. If you put the soil on top it will die because they cannot be to far under soil.

Cinta we all have our problems, my problem is the sun. Come June they start burning up. I am constantly watering to keep the root ball going.

It was either the deer or the groundhog. They both eat everything I plant. I have sprays and fences and they still manage to get to my gardens.

It is getting better. When I first moved in I did not know how many critters I had. I have figured out their pattern and I have been able to keep them out until fall. When Fall comes all bets are off. I stomped my feet at one deer and she stomped her foot back at me.

In the Fall they are getting their fat on for the winter and they do not care what you do to deter them they come for the food and Hostas are there favorite food.

Nature is telling us to choose something different to plant. Smiling
It is a hard lesson for me to learn. There are some plants that just keep calling my name.

All the books say that nothing eats daffodils. Well my critters cannot read. They eat the flowers. I think they are not suppose to eat them because they are poison. I guess my animals have a death wish because they ate the daffodils.

Some plant that I just read recently of that Lynn said she couldn't have because of wrong zone conditions and I was trying to tease her. But now that you called me to the carpet, Marilyn, I can't find which thread it was that Lynn was being wistful...
