Is the purslane plant an annual or a perrenial?
If it is a perennial, should I bring it inside for the winter?

Would love to see a photo of your purslane, there are so many different types. The culinary type comes back every year for me in my zone 8, but I know it comes back from self seeding in much colder zones.
Is your the ornamental type? You can save seed from it for next year. They start very quickly from seed.

I don't even have any of the ornamental type in my yard, but this year a beautiful plant started growing at the foot of the steps to our deck. I'll have to get a photo of it tomorrow. It had to be brought in by a bird.

Nan from the Florida panhandle. I have the wild purslane here...it's the one with small yellow flowers and is edible. It comes back for me in the yard each year... I like to "graze" on it when I water...has a lemony flavor

Here in Houston I protect it from frost in the winter and it grows slowly in the garage. I have had my hanging pot of portulaca for about 7 years. Even when it dies back, it returns each spring, bigger and better. This year I am going to build an outside greenhouse with clear vinyl (I hope) I hope the extra light will help the portulaca and all the others in the winter, as we have some warm , sunny days during our winter and no snow. Mine is hot pink and hangs about 24".

Before the first frost, I took cuttings of every piece I could from plants in the ground & stuck them wherever there was smidge of space in pots coming inside. Looks like about 85% of them are still alive, a few in the sunniest spots making a flower occasionally. I can't wait to decorate outside with tons of this stuff next summer!
