This is an awesome raffle! A lot of terrific daylily prizes! And I must say that tink3472's prize of "Buddy's Pretty Laura" a new introduction is stunning!

Wow! There are so many great prizes!!!!

I love daylilies! All mine are hybrids grown from seed. (No registered names.) I received some seeds several years ago by two generous seed traders and I felt like I hit the jackpot because I grew some amazing blooms from those seeds. I have since cross-pollinated by hand my favorites and yet again got some really lovely hybrids. You just never know what you might get with hybrids!

When growing daylilies from seed here in Florida, they typically bloom the second year. So I don't have to wait long to find out what the blooms will look like. Some of mine are re-bloomers, too. I love daylilies because they survive in my yard, which I can't say about all of my in-ground planting attempts. (Florida soil is horrible!)

You can never have enough daylilies! Thumbs up

Sure wish someone had offered a packet or two of mixed daylily hybrid seeds in the prize mix as well.

I got my 2 tickets .... which is all I had. Fingers crossed! Acorn Acorn

Well, let's see ... if everyone got the same amount of tickets, that would be 30 tickets for each of the 64 entries. Seeing how I did not get nearly that many tickets, my guess is some folks were like me and only had limited tickets to buy, others got quite a lot of tickets! I look forward to the drawing tomorrow and the video with "little man"! Always a chucke to watch the winner announcements!

Marilyn - The species of daylily is called a "spider" daylily. As is all of my daylilies, it is a no name hybrid.

I'm learning so much about Daylilies this week from all the great articles and chatting with folks who grow them. I've learned that the reason the few Daylilies I've tried growing (like 'Final Touch' in my avatar photo) haven't done well is because they are not the evergreen type which are recommended for Florida.

Lin - I have grown seeds from a multitude of daylily crosses. The original seeds came from two different gardeners in different parts of the USA. Some do really well here for me and some don't. It's a process of trial and error. It is interesting though to see which ones thrive in the heat and long season of Florida and which ones die after a couple years never to be seen again. The ones that thrive are the ones that I selectively cross-pollinate by hand.

I have also wondered if seed grown plants adapt better than the plants (from a different growing environment than Florida)? Do seed grown daylilies have a better chance at long term survival even if they are not created for the heat, humidity, and sandy soil of Florida? I have always wondered about that. Many of my daylilies do seem to survive and thrive from seeds I've received from northern gardeners.

Becky: Very interesting! My thinking is that seed grown plants would probably adapt better than plants that come from another part of the country with very different climate and growing conditions.
