At first I was really hesitant and disappointed, but after reading everything you c-mailed me I think it will be really great -- except for the database information. Should we still upload pictures in the database here, or will it become defunct as everyone moves over to allthingsplants?

Betty - so much was put into it, I would hate to just "delete it"..... I think it may be up to Sue and you to discuss. You have put the most work into it.

Right now, I am focusing for the most part on what to move in the forums, since Dave is not interested in moving databases at this point. He wants to move the forums over pretty quick. Since I was not the owner here, I didn't learn about this until a few hours ago.

I am trying to consolidate the forums and take out posts about problems people had with DG, off topic chit chat etc. You will see some forums with MOVE now behind the name. Some with DO NOT MOVE.

I will work on merging the Hybridizers and Vendor's forums later today. Just now, I moved all the posts from the discussion forum into there that related to website updates and so forth. I am not 100% sure how Dave will move things over.... but thought I would try to organize the posts as much as I can.

I am hoping they don't all go over in one big lump and then shuffle by date - as things might be confusing.... would be hard to follow discussions if posts were intermingled with other posts made the same date, but from different forums. Did that make any sense?

LOL

Dave knows what he's doing, so I am sure it will come out ok.

We have way over 300 members... but I think 300 came, checked it out and never came back. Cubits is just to confusing. I know for myself, I only go to about half a dozen cubits. I'd like to check more of them out, but there is no master list. If people don't know to put tags on their cubits, they are difficult to search for. And, if you don't know to search for them, you won't find them. So, someone might have a cubit that would catch my attention - but not something I would just think up out of thin air to search for. In that way, I do like DG better. When your in the frame of mind to look for something new, you can go to the master list of forums.

I'm looking forward to it!

I was really confused when I first read about the move. Actually I still am, confused. But I am really looking forward to seeing this new website.

I like the format over at Gardenweb much better than here. That is there is one daylily forum and I go there each morning and immediately see what is new. Here you have to look all over the place and I don't care for the setup. True, you really can post in many different places all under the daylily cubit but that only makes it more complicated for me.

The only reason I am here at Cubits is that many of the people over at Daves seem to have bailed out and come to Cubits. So I miss there postings so came over myself. But I am very much still at Daves.

I really want to see All Things Plants and can't wait for the launch!

Rita --- I am hoping that your image posting issues won't be an issue on the new site! I think that is what Trish was trying to tell me the other day! It doesn't do Dave any good to have you post links here and have people then go to GardenWeb. I see their point!

More and more people are upset with DG all the time. I hate the new right side design thing over there. I use an iPad most of the time, and I have to scroll right to see the posts.... I hate it. I won't renew when my time is up... and I have good friends there. I hope when Dave gets the new site going, and it is FREE that the folks we love will migrate there.

Cubits, for the most part has been difficult for me to find my way around. I have a few cubits in my cubit watcher, but finding new cubits is hit or miss. So I am VERY happy with the new site from Dave! I have had a little bit of a sneak peek!

Judi-

I agree I hate that new feature of the right side design myself. And I definately noticed when they started doing it that way.

It is actually not that all fire conveniet for me to post pictures at Daves as they only can upload one picture a post. So I only add afew pictures to Daves here and there.

If the new site allows immages to be copy and paste from a hosting site like Photobucket to the body of a message like Gardenweb then I would be over the moon happy with it.

It makes sense to me what you said about links to gardenweb. It promotes gardenweb which is a compeating site to cubits so therefore not a good thing. Since it is only afew days until the launch I guess we can all just wait and see the new site.

I am happy to see the change, I never liked the way this site was set up. I pointed this out when I first came from Dave's to here, all thou I have stayed here and love the way we can upload more than one image at a time and hope that doesn't change. I hardly ever post on Dave's anymore because of the problem I had last year with naming a daylily. There's not many people posting on the daylily cubit so maby this new site will generate more traffic. Hope things work out for the better. Fred

Fred, I am not going to move over the old "name the daylily" threads, but I sure hope you continue to do the contests on the new site! If you really want the old threads moved, I'll move them back into the forum that will be moved.

I tried to move only threads that had information, photos, etc... not just chat, etc.

I also remember what you told me about this set up having to many forums. I like that the new site will be more like DG and GW - one forum.

You move only whats necessary to make it a great place to visit, so we can attract some new members. I will continue with the daylily names when the time comes and help in anyway I can.

I was just getting on to ask if moving to the site that Dave controls means that we can no longer interact with the hybridizers and growers, as the DG "rules" demand, because that would be a total bummer for me! But this sounds like we can keep things the way we've been doing them on the Daylily Cubit, and that is of utmost importance to me. Juli, you and Sue have been the owners here and have given us the freedom to have back-and-forth discussions with hybridizers and growers, whereas on DG a couple of my threads were totally deleted by the Admin. because hybridizers got involved in the discussions. But you were/are the owners of the Daylily Cubit, and that will now change to Dave being the owner of All Things Plants. I just hope that he will be supportive of our interaction with the hybridizers and growers and not develop the type of "rules" that DG has!

Betty -- This forum will stay the same once the move happens. The only thing is, everything will meld into one forum, like it is at DG and GW. No more separate forums like we have here. Dave will "own" the site, but I will "moderate"... he will leave all the day to day stuff to me. I will decide if something needs cut or edited or someone needs talking to or "banned" which is something I have yet to do. I don't think Sue did it either - if she did, she didn't tell me.

So, the only rules once we move will be the same ones we have had. Be nice, ask before using someone's photos, and that's about it. I'd rather see people post things here, rather than say "hey, go **here** to my blog and see what I wrote about rust"... because that link to their blog takes people away from THIS site. People do that alot on the AHS robin - and you go to their blog and it is two lines that they could have just copied and pasted to the message to the robin.... instead you've just left the robin, started up a browser, and went to some blog program, maybe had to click off a pop up or put up with some blinking ad to read those two lines. Can you tell that is sort of a "thing" of mine? Whistling Now, if someone says go read my blog, I usually don't! LOL... now, Lee Pickles has some lovely photos on his blog - well worth the trip! So--- if your still with me, I'd rather have people put their images or their words here and not take us off away from Cubits or ATP (All Things Plants) to see it. If someone does it repeatedly, I might write them a note and ask them not to... NewYorkRita had a reason she is linking to GardenWeb. I understand that.

So -- I think it will be good there. Maybe we can pull some more people on over! I love the way it is so easy to post photos here. The opposite of DG - I think hybridizers need a place to do a little promoting in this down economy. I don't think Dave has anything against that at the moment. We can't allow out and out sales pitches -- but saying hey, we are having an open garden, or hey we have updated our website, or look at our new intros, I think that is great. Or, Fred's naming contest. As long as I allow everyone to have a naming contest and don't show favoritism - I don't see the problem. If Dave has a problem, he will let me know. I think it was Internet Brands that had the problem, not Dave.... I am not 100% about that....

Thank you Juli! You've made me sooooooo happy! But I still have one question. I got the idea somehow that you had to choose either ATP or Cubits for daylilies and go with one or the other, and that once you move everything over the Daylily Cubit will disappear. Is that correct, or will there still be a Daylily Cubit after everything is moved? And I think (hope) I'm all tapped out on questions now...

I was just thinking about what will be left here after the move. Now I understand that some cubits like Lilies and Roses have decided not to move but I could be wrong about that. But on the ones that do move like this daylily cubit. What is left here after the move to All Things Plants? So what if a frequent poster comes here looking for the daylily forum what will they find? What if they do not want to go to all things plants to post about daylilies but want to stay here? What is left in that case? Anything? Not an option? Seems like if there is nothing it is unfair to posters that want to stay here. Seems like if it is left here then it is duplicating the new site.

I find all this very confusing!

As soon as we move I have no intention of posting links. It will probably be against the new rules there but even if not, I am just not going to do it. The point is too build up the new place. I know the point was to build up Cubits too but it just hasn't grown lately. My take on that is that it became a garden site mostly as most of the same people that were on DG moved over here. Many frequenting both places.

I think my old post of Daylilies in My Long Island garden should either be deleated after the move as it has missing pictures and no-no links. Or it should be left here as is. I think I understood from reading above that some things could/would be deleated? Left here? Again I am confused and know it will all straiten out after the move.

I will be doing new post and pictures at the new site. Just how many pictures remains to be seen as too how long it takes to upload.

Rita... it would be good of you to **try** to upload photos on the new site. BUT --- if it takes to long.... Please continue to post your links. People want to see your photos. If posting links allows that to happen, then do it. I would rather have your posts with links --- than not to have your posts at all.

I am making the rules -- and I am telling you to do it..... is that clear enough? Whistling Smiling

Maybe uploading to the new site will work faster for you. If so, that's great. If not, use your links.
