I've got ditch lilies that were already here when I moved in... They're spreading and invading other areas of the perennial bed.

I've never dealt with daylilies before. What's the best way to rein them back? TIA

My first impulse may sound a bit flippant! Since they are rhizomatous, if you wish to keep some, put it in a large pot and sink it ... which MAY work. Treat the rest vigorously with Roundup. They are persistent and it may take several times. Good luck!

I vote to treat with Roundup!

Yup, Roundup works well. Sometimes might take more than one application if they are very established, but it is do-able.

No Roundup, my yard is organic.

Ditch lilies are a "cousin" to the hybrid daylilies. They spread by their rhizomes, not from seed.

I would dig - and try to get every single rhizome out.

I would dig them out of areas you don't want them in and share them with folks that have a black thumb, put them out by the road with a sign that says FREE DITCH LILIES, someone will want them. They are beautiful when used in a natural setting. I can't kill any such beautiful plant, now dandelions , that is a different story. My mother used to eat them, I wish I could but I never liked them.

They spread by rhizome--that confirms what I'm observing. Fun with a shovel on tha agenda.

Remember that even a small piece left behind will surface up to a couple years later. This happened to me after digging.
