Based on the info on Tera Nova's site, it's ideal for the deep south with high humidity. The site lists three species in the breeding. The villosa heuchera is native to the southeast, so my guess is that even if it is listed as good for northern gardens, it may not do well without the humidity needed during the summer season. Of course, that is just a guess on my part.

Even tho' I like the photos, I'd be hesitant to try it in my climate which has very low humidity during the summer months.

Smiles,
Lyn
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

@springcolor,
Julia how did Zipper do for you? It is cheap enough for me on Santa Rosa 6.95 but just wondering if it survived for you. I know my climate is worst than what you experience and you usually have good luck but I am still wondering how it did for you.

I bought Zipper as a plug and it died. Grumbling So bought a 4 inch plant end of summer at a local nursery. So far still alive, ask me again in May. Sorry not much help but it sure is a pretty one. I'm done with plugs for heuchera too many casualties.

Thank you Julia. I know about plugs the same thing happened to me. Could have been because it was a Terra Nova co-op and I do not have much luck with their plants anyway. But all my plug Hercs died too. They are too tender for my climate to do that again.

I will order it Santa Rosa is sending these next Spring so I will see. I am having good luck with them in big pots on the patio. The pots are very large and thick tree pots that are 4' tall and 3' wide. I mulch them good and they seem to love this treatment.

I'm not sure what it is but I want a bigger plant with these heuchera then the plugs provide. I'm just getting tiered of babying them for 2 years, even then they still seem less vigorous than a full grown plant from the nursery. I meant to collect seeds from my heuchera to sow this year but sadly life got busy and I didn't get to it. The ones that I grew a few years ago from my seeds are mostly still nice plants. However just not as showy as the commercial hybrids. One new one that I would love to buy is Champagne, love the color on that one. Kind of reminds me of 'Ginger Ale' , hope one of the locals around here will sell it.
Cinta, good luck with 'zipper'. Keep us posted on how it does.

Heuchera Champagne, hummmm I have not seen that one I will have to google that one.

I could not believe how big my plants were this summer after growing them in pots. I have never had plants this big unless I purchased them this big.

What kind of soil did you use in the containers?

I have 4 acres and lots and lots of trees. I stuffed the bottom of the pots with leaves from oak trees, and I have several pine trees that drop needles like a oak tree shedding its leaves in the Fall. So those pine needles were mixed in with all the leaves. On top of that I had some homemade compost. So this soil is rich, rich, rich.

I would say they did better because of the pot soil but where I was trying to grow them is in what was once a gravel patio outside the master bedroom. That gravel is covered with 5 ft of the same thing I am using in the pots. The only different is there is gravel in the garden giving more drainage. They were dying every winter. I have not been able to keep them alive through the winter.

I will look through my pics to show the difference of size I received and what just one season produced in the pots.
