~ Editing my original post to say the plant has been identified as Lion's Tail (Leonotis leonurus)

I'm having a bit of brain freeze today and need a little more help from my friends! Lovey dubby
I took these photo's in San Diego mid August and I've forgotten the name. I keep thinking Justicia carnea (Brazilian Plume) but I'm just not sure; the leaves seem too narrow. I know this is an easy one, a common plant ... so, why can't my brain remember what it is! Grumbling

Hi Lin.

Is that maybe Lion's (body part) Mane, tail, ear? Leonotis leonurus I am never sure which name is acceptable.... Shrug! It is also called Wild Dagga.

I agree, I've grown three types of orange-flowered Leonotis and the flower stem structure and leaf shape of the plant in your pic are right for Leonotis leonurus.

I agree with the L. leonurus ID. I have the other one L. neptifolia.

Does anyone have the salmon-flowering or white-flowering one?

I've only grown the orange Leonotis leonorus, but I have grown Leonotis menthifolia which has paler orange flowers.
I think wcgypsy/Sherry has grown the white L. leonorus.

I'm surprised that you remember that, Danita! I did have the white flowered form...had one left in a large clay pot and am moving (tomorrow), 900 miles North and have given it away....and it was just starting to flower...sigh...hoping that my friend realizes what a cool plant it is....

Charleen, You should start a new thread at the bottom of this page here: http://garden.org/forums/view/...

Otherwise, since this thread was marked closed/solved people probably won't see your post.
