While trimming away frosted foliage this afternoon I noticed little rooted *cups* of black seeds. The container had been planted with Plectranthus barbatus and a few violas.
The viola seed cups I've seen aren't round cones. Are there some that are?

I'd just taken photos of portulaca seed pods and that's one of the reasons I was so intrigued. The little cups of seeds looked somewhat similar at first glance.

Lol .. I've grown portulaca and never really noticed that but you're right! They do kind of look alike.
