How To Make Your Own Succulent Wreath

By goldfinch4
March 30, 2010

The directions for making a succulent wreath are very simple. The same method can be used for any topiary form using sedum or sempervivum. The directions below are for using semps and a wreath frame.

I saw your article featured and followed it over here. Nice Cubit. Good article thanks for the links I found them very interesting. I have had one for a couple of years now. I always have trouble overwintering my wreath and need to replace a good bit of it every spring.

Hi Holly,

None of the plants that I used on this wreath are hardy in my zone. At the end of the summer I removed the plants, potted them up and brought them inside. I made a topiary turtle with sempervivum and just left that one outside all winter. I was surprised to see that most of the semps survived.

I agree with you, Lynn has put together a great Cubit! Hurray!

I have hopes of having the GH up by next winter that will make it easier to over winter. I also was thinking of displaying it on an artist easel over the winter. I have a friend that has one all done with hardy semps and she leaves hers outside all winter, she has had it for several years. I have one with hosta, ivy & squill that I add a few impatiens & other annuals to. I left it outside last winter in a protected spot and we should soon see if that worked or not.

You'll have to post pictures - they all sound great! I did some last year with impatiens, variegated thyme, and another vine (can't remember right off what it was). They turned out nice too.
